According to Orthodox Jewish tradition, every male Jew is required each morning to recite the following benediction:
Well, I don’t know how many college athletic directors are Jewish (and at least a few are female, for that matter), but is there any doubt how many of them woke up today thinking something along the lines of “Blessed art Thou, Lord our God, King of the universe, who hast not made me Mal Moore…” ?
I’m not really looking to kick anyone when they’re as far down as Mal Moore is right now, but, seriously, if you’re him, where do you go from here? Your A-list is exhausted; your B-list guys know what you offered Rodriguez and aren’t likely to settle for much less. To make your task even more difficult, you’ve boxed yourself in by saying that you want to hire an established head coach.
On top of that, you, your underlings and the Alabama media have collectively demonstrated that you couldn’t keep a secret if your lives depended on it. What currently employed head coach wants to risk the embarrassment of entering into negotiations with you? (Other than the ones looking for more $$ out of their current school, of course.)
I love the spin that what’s been proven is that ‘Bama people are deluded about the prestige of the job – you know, it ain’t the Bear’s Alabama anymore, yada, yada, yada. What a bunch of BS. Alabama is a front line SEC school with top notch facilities. Any coach that gets the job will get paid somewhere north of $1 million per year. Jeezus, it’s not exactly Tennessee Tech.
No, the correct conclusion to draw from this debacle is that Mal Moore and the powers that be at ‘Bama are pretty much getting what they deserve right now…
