Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?

When bureaucrats make excuses, I always love how they downplay the debacle they’re trying to explain away. So, it’s with particular amusement that I read this quote from one Verle Sorgen, the PAC-10 coordinator of officials, regarding the replay disaster from the Oregon-Oklahoma game last year:

The system, Sorgen said, worked well last season “except for that one glitch.”

Ahh, a mere glitch… well, I’m reassured!

If Mr. Sorgen ever gets tired of spinning officiating mistakes, he sounds like he’s got a real future in Washington, D.C.
