Perverse thought(s) of the day

After I read this, for some strange reason I immediately wondered what it would be like if Spurrier retired after this season and the Gamecock brain trust (no oxymoron cracks, please) pondered hiring Fulmer as his replacement.

And in a totally unrelated matter, Reid McCollum remains my favorite South Carolina player.  I’m counting on you, Reid.

Do you think they’d resurrect Tommy Tuberville before chubby?

On the other issue: your faith in Reid McCollum will be rewarded. I give it, say, 4 straight Garcia incompletions in the third quarter of game 1 or 2.

Strange, I had that same perverse thought after reading that same article. Columbia, where old coaches go to die…

I know it’s South Carolina, and I know it’s Columbia, and I know all about secession talk and then secession action. I also, know, though, that there’s a DC in Gainesville who spent some time in Columbia. If he ends up on those sidelines, I think they would have finally made a good decision up there.

    Just sayin’.

If Charlie Strong went to Columbia it would kill two birds with one stone. The Gator defense would be weakened and Charlie would disappear down the same hole as Sparky Woods, and Brad Scott, and Jim Carlen, and Lou Holtz, and . . . well you get the idea.

So I Googled this McCollum kid to find his official bio on the SC football website and the first blurb on him is this:

“Redshirt freshman quarterback who earned the number two role behind expected starter Stephen Garcia in the spring… has great size and a live arm… moves better in the pocket than expected… continues to gain a better grasp of the offense with more experience.”

Someone please explain to me what “moves better in the pocket than expected” means? As I slow white guy, I’m somewhat offended.

Does anyone out there believe Tennessee upgraded its coaching staff or believe Auburn upgraded its? This will go down as one of the strangest off-seasons in the SEC, hopefully for a long time to come. Maybe the trend of coaches being on such short leashes will begin to reverse.

What nice condescension. You guys think alike…

  7. PLEASE Charlie Strong to SC… PLEASE!
