My bags are packed, I’m ready to go…

I’m about to head down the road to Amelia Island for the weekend, so obviously blogging will be a little on the sparse side until I get back Sunday.  However, I think I’ve figured out how to do the post by e-mail thing on WordPress, so if the spirit moves me, I’ll try to put up a couple of brief things here in the meantime.

For those of you going, stay safe.  For those of you watching the game on the telly, stay sane.

um … a couple of brief things whirling like a cyclone in your mind?

Sorry. As musical references go, that was downright cheesy.

47-38-2 over, 2-3 over the last 5, and if we win this weekend, Timmy leaves UF with a losing record as a starter against the Dawgs. He’d be the first UF quarterback since the 80’s to wear that hat.

Plus, we do pretty well against defending national champions. I can’t remember the last time we lost to one. We beat LSU, UF, Tech, Clemson, Bama, Michigan (in the same year as Bama). We lost to one in there somewhere.

Also, the last time we played UF when they were number 1, we won 24-3. As Erk used to say, you know what Dogs do to poles (polls). (h/t RTK).

Anyway, lots of mojo out there for us. We just need to play our best game of the season. Easy, right?

Even while some travel to resort islands, some are still hard at work and the war on Lane continues unabated…

Global War on Lane (GWOL) Crisis of the Day (COD) Piece, “Who Stole My Cheese?” 29 October 2009

Moral Victory Banquet Room, President’s Mansion, Green Zone, Knoxville

1145 Department of Fatherland Security briefing

Layla 2 hands the daily intel to Monte. Monte reviews same, dismisses all the other assistant coaches except his boy and calls him over.

Lane fetches his visor and runs over toward Monte.
Monte is not looking forward to telling Lane that rather than Lane having ‘street cred’, Lane is ‘wack.’

Monte shows Lane the intel from the Urban Dictionary and tells Lane that Lane needs to cool it on the ‘street cred’ because any way you look at Lane has a negative score on the street cred test so think of some other angle, a good idea like a helo or a billboard.

Lane wants to see the test so Monte reluctantly shows it to him:

    “Questions About Lane:

    I. He’s been thru it all. His street cred is undeniable.
    1. your “coolness” factor
    2. imaginary “points” you get when you do something cool

II. A series of points Lane gains within the 12-30 black year old community in order to gain respect:

    5 point- Born black
5 point- Born in a single parent home
    10 points- Born poor
50 points- Sold ‘Hard’ drugs.. crack, cocaine, Heroin
65 points- Been shot and survived
75 points- Been shot multiple times and survived
70 points- Gang member of crips or bloods
    65 points- Been to prison
    40 points- Been to Jail
20 points- Have at least 10 tattoos
20 points- Kicked out of high school or dropped out
20 points- 16 years old and have a baby mama
    -75 Points- Born rich
    -50 Points- Speak proper English
    -60 Points- Have white friends
    -5 Points- Born white
-95 Points- Born in a safe neighborhood
    -100 Points- No criminal record
-40 Points- Live with both parents
-35 Points- Smile when someone takes your photo
    -60 Points- Straight A student
-2000 Points- Born in Utah, Maine, New Hampshire, Montana or Arizona

Examples of when Lane may have street cred:

“I waz crip cuz, in prison bout 8 years pushing coke but check out them look gunshot wounds I got yo”

“Damm you got street cred yo! you rap?”

Examples of when Lane may not have street cred:

“I’m from Maine and got a 4.0 from Harvard. My parents are both on the fortune 500 list and are still together”-

“Man, you are wack you don’t got now street cred you sucker”

After slowly reading the report, Lane looks at his Dad. They each realize Lane doesn’t even have a positive score but rather a huge negative point score so Lane therefore fails the ‘street cred’ test.

Lane asks what his score is. Monte tells him it’s at least a -420 and could be as much as a -2,420 if Lane was born in Utah, Maine, New Hampshire, Montana or Arizona. Lane asks, “Where was I born?” and Monte says, “How should I know?”

Lane says, “Well, what about Georgia? Is that all I have left?”
Monte replies, “Who have they beaten? Vanderbilt. You’ll have something if Georgia can beat Florida but don’t count on it, son. They’ll beat the point spread but still not win the game.”

“Well, if Georgia doesn’t beat Florida, what am I?” Lane asks.

Monte slowly looks at his boy and tells him, “You’re still wack just like you always were.”

    1. Willie Martinez cannot coach defense in the SEC.

    2. Neither Cox nor Gray can handle the QB position.

    3. Mike Bobo seems to be in over his head as well.

    4. And I love Richt to death, but he’s kinda coming off like an idiot these days. He is the Lloyd Carr of the SEC. Nice and respectable. But he cannot be counted upon to win the games that mean the most to the fans.

This is f*cking embarrassing. Our program is so much better than this. And yet we’re letting poor coaching and stupid mistakes drag us down to the Kentucky-Vandy tier of this conference. Actually, I bet Kentucky manhandles us.

To hell with this season and this staff.

    • Scott

Agree with everything you said, except I still think Bobo is ok. If only he had an occasional short field to work with and more few offensive plays per game. When the opposing team churns out first downs and lengthy drives, it really keeps the offensive from getting into a rhythm.

Also, we used to win a lot of games scoring in the high teens or low 20’s. Nobody noticed the offensive failings because we were winning.

Martinez is the primary reason for the decline of the program.

    • 1) You act like Richt just started coaching CFB last year and doesn’t have one of the most impressive resumes in CFB over the past 2 decades. Little perspective needed there, fwiw.

      2) Bobo had a very good day working with not much against a very good defense. The Cox mistakes, Glenn holding, etc. weren’t his fault. He did very well with what he could control.

  14. Scott

Last 16 games, we have give up 37 or more points 9 times.

(Alabama, LSU, Florida, Kentucky, Georgia Tech in 2008) (South Carolina, Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida in 2009).

  15. Turd Ferguson

First of all, how can I be “acting” like Richt doesn’t have an impressive resume by posting a comment on a blog about how he’s coming off “these days”? These days, Mark Richt is looking like the whipping boy of the East. Back in his days as an SECOND Champion coach? Nope. But these days? Yep.

And second, Lloyd Carr had an impressive resume, too. But he couldn’t be counted upon to win the games that mattered most to the program and its fans. So they got rid of him.
