Progress, of a sort

At least he’s realized who’s not to blame for Georgia’s kickoff woes this season:

Asked about the Dogs’ troubles with kickoffs, Richt said that Blair Walsh has been doing a “stellar” job of kicking off, but “we just haven’t been covering good” this year.

Baby steps, people.  Next thing you know, he’ll be questioning why they directionally kick so much.

    To all the Georgia fans,

Apparently PETA is after you. Take a look:

What a load of crap. Your mascot is one of the most recognizable symbols of SEC football. One of my most memorable pictures is of the Auburn player almost getting taken out by your mascot.

    your Objective Bama Fan,

Scooter, pardon me. You don’t go by the last name of Libby by any chance, do you?

Wanted to let you in on the fact that confidential and sensitive negotiations are ongoing now between the PETA animatronic negotiating rep and the couple of anonymous people (one’s got to be the liquor guy) who make all academic and athletic decisions at Georgia to give up UGA XXVIIII, or whatever the number is, in return for these PETA models http://blog.peta.org/archives/nude/

Right now the main obstacle is the cheeleading coach at Georgia who wants her hot long-legged girls and sissy boys to be the total centre of admiration, drooling and slobbering on Inside the Hedges Inside the Arena just Outside the Field.

Some thought that Georgia would refuse to trade its UGA mascot but those observers don’t know two things:

      (1) the hotness of the naked PETA chicks (who have been told to pack for a long trip to Athens. They think they’re going to Greece. We want the Clarke County airstrip to be a suprise and don’t want them to panic and scatter before they are all locked inside the Cessna), and

      (2) it’s just a dog and name me somebody who won’t swap any dog, even if it’s a damn good dog, for a bunch of naked girls? I bet Sonny would.

LOOK, DAMMIT, JUST KICK THE BALL THROUGH THE FRIGGIN ENDZONE. ENOUGH ALREADY.

Willie to some might be the End of Richt, but I dare say it’s the half-part-insane/half-part-nonchalant attitude w/r/t kickoff coverage. This killed us in the Trek game last year, at which point we were told that things would change.

    Um, no.

TRIED IT STOP WON’T WORK STOP WE’VE GOT TO KICK ALL THE THROUGH THE BACK OF THE END ZONE STOP WE KICK IT AND THEY CATCH IT IN END ZONE THEY RUN IT OUT TO FORTY IN BEST CASE SCENARIO OR SCORE TD IN WORST CASE SCENARIO STOP

I know this has been covered a 1000 times by those of us outside the arena, but I reviewed the KY game last night and it’s just astonishing. They kick-off deep to the corner at the 2, and they already have coverage people in place to tackle at our 10 yard line (8 yard gap). We kick…I guess “directionally” to their 7…no one in sight until KY returner gets to the 20 where we see the first UGA defender at the 35 (12 + 15 = 27 yard gap). And who are those defenders? Rennie, Reshad, and what appears to be most, if not all, of our defensive backfield. This is not “12th man” scout team stuff.

Ya gotta be kiddin’ me…. To Mark Richt: “C’mon, Man”

We were at the bottom of the nation in kickoff coverage last year. We are again this year.

We know kickoff coverage turned the momentum of the first game of this year, and it flat out lost the fifth game.

If you think anything will be done about it, you are mistaken.

It will not happen because the head coach does not demand it.

The “arena” is a lonely terrible place. Vampires, wolves, Rosie O’Donnell, ape men, robotic bulldogs, cowardly lions, and sharks with lasers attached to there heads live there. I am so glad my brave coaching staff live in the “arena” and protect people like me from the evils of the “arena” . . .

  6. D.N. Nation

    Sigh.

Can we, like, talk about Stafford’s game-winning play last Sunday instead? Can we somehow take credit for that, but then not take credit for anything else that happens for the Lions?

    Right-handed pass, no less.

    Waytago, Matt.

    • They’ve got a link to watch his play “mic’d up” on the nfl website that’s really awesome. Listening to him on that play, you can just hear how much it hurt, but he GATA.
