So how far have things slid in Knoxville?
Chris Low thinks Tennessee stands a bigger chance of losing to 1-AA Tennessee-Martin than Mississippi State does to Memphis.
Ouch.

Most of the Hillbillys I know are fully expecting a disaster season in 2010. DD has a pass this year, and the worse the season is, the more it will reflect on prior years and not be attributed to him, particularly regarding what Junior did to the talent in the last 2 recruiting classes, and those he ran off. After this year, things will have to improve quickly as most feel that Dooley is a classy guy but may be over his head. I see TN with four wins, but + or – one game from that would not shock anyone. Offensive line and QB look to be horrible.
I’m almost as fired up for those Hoop Dance Workshops (click ads above, please) after last season [(slightly)comic segue alert] as The ‘Billies will be after next season. There will be no other reason for dancing on Rocky Flop. They’re boned, and DD is boned, too, unfortunately for him. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. DD is their Felton… a good guy charged with dragging a program out of the sludge and restoring [sic] integrity only to be replaced with a perceived winner in a few seasons.
Sorry, but you lost me with the Felton reference. Felton had six years to restore a program and he did nothing. He won a fluke SEC championship, failed to recruit any real talent except for a few guys (Thompkins and Leslie), and ran off the majority of the talent he had. In one year alone, Fox has done more with Felton’s players than Felton ever dreamed of doing, and in addition to that, he scored a major coup by landing Marcus Thornton over Georgia Tech. Fox is more than just a perceived winner, the guy is the real deal.
That’s right. Felton was “a good guy charged with dragging a program out of the sludge and restoring integrity only to be replaced with a perceived winner in a few seasons.”
He guided the program out of the Harrick wilderness until UGA hired what, at the time of his hiring, was a perceived potential winner. Fox was a relatively unknown commodity when he showed up here. If you said, “Hot dog! We got Fox!” when he was hired then you were certainly among a tiny minority who did a dance at that time, and your prescience is to be commended.
We are all surely saying, “Hot dog!” now though; and I stand by my statement.
I am guessing you disliked him; but even with all of Felton’s shortcomings, you have got to admit that the program is now clean, and that was his primary job.
I took your statement of “perceived winner” as a slight towards Fox. After clarification, I understand what you mean, but I think using the word perceived is what threw me. Fox is a winner, regardless of perception.
Yes, while Felton’s primary job was to clean the program, that wasn’t his only job. I defended Felton until the end and always wanted him to succeed. I do believe, though, that Felton had some major flaws in his armor. He routinely kicked players off the team, but when does that cease to be discipline and begin to be poor personnel management? Fox was able to take the majority of the same players Felton had and change their attitudes completely (case in point, Albert Jackson)
Albert Jackson went from being a guy with a bad attitude and a waste of potential to a guy who was a vocal leader in the locker room and was voluntarily setting the example for his teammates. He cut his braids of his own accord to show that he was committed to his new coach, because he knew his new coach was committed to him. Fox is a Georgia man, Felton was not. He was too worried about wearing nice suits that he deemed fashionable, and he admitted that he didn’t particularly care for Georgia’s colors. Now, I don’t know about you, but I don’t care if my school colors are absolutely hideous; if I’m coaching a team and I want the team to believe in themselves and believe in the team, it starts with ME believing in that team and buying into that program, color scheme and all. Do you think Bruce Pearl thinks he’s fashionable in that atrocious orange blazer? Absolutely not…but he’s turned it into a symbol for that Tennessee program because he only wears it for Kentucky and Vanderbilt and he wants to set an example that it’s a big deal and the program is a big deal.
I will get down off of my soapbox now.
How could anyone think red and black is a bad color scheme…?
I have no idea, but Dennis Felton did.
Have we out-kicked our coverage with Fox? Man that guy’s sharp.
I fear Kentucky coming after him after Calipari disgraces himself again.
…I mean, leaves for the NBA.
+2
If this list is in descending order, he also thinks Jacksonville State has a better shot with Ole Miss…
While the former AD may not like it, what with the family relationship and all, we should really stomp the Vols if we get the chance this season. The victory margin in 2008 wasn’t near enough to make up for ’06 and ’07.
And ’09.
We’d better beat the absolute snot out of the Vols this year. That is all.
If Dooley is not up to the task of putting UT together, they could fall further than they already have….they have talent but it is nowhere near what they are used to having.
Then again, they could still beat us as they always seem to be at their best when playing against us
