    I’m all for a stronger FSU. It might hurt us a little in south Ga recruiting, but should hurt UF more.

    I don’t understand the concern over short yardage for UF given the stable of bruising running backs they boast and the frequency with which those guys have run from the I – formation. Or at least that’s what I’ve been told by UF fans for the last 7 months.

    heh. “I got a chance to shake his hand and hug his neck.” For an Omaha boy raised in South Florida, Richt sure does sound like one of us. I reckon that’s the B’ham Bowden effect?

    Yesterday I heard the Gator beat writer for the Florida Times Union interviewed on the radio. He was asked whether the Gators would be running the 4-3 or 3-4 on defense and were there any concerns about deciding on the scheme to be used.

    In continuing the Gator media meme of “No worries, we’re going to be even better without Tebow and Charlies Strong” he responded this was not an issue and that current co-DC Teryl Austin had said they would simply run either the 3-4 or 4-3 based upon the personnel they had available (with some of Strong’s old 3-3-5 mixed in).

    I wasn’t aware switching between the 3-4 and 4-3 was such a nonchalant affair. In fact, I was under the impression (based upon Georgia’s own switch) that there was a lot to learn in making the change, as players (at least the front 7) had to learn new assignments and have at least a slightly different mindset.

    Maybe the career DB coaches who are now co-defensive coordinators are super geniuses who can make the intricacies of the 3-4 easily and immediately understandable to their players. Or maybe they have so little idea of what they’re doing that they don’t even know what they don’t know.

    I think we can only hope the new Gator defensive brain trust tries juggling defensive schemes. It may all end up in Gainesville like it did with Kevin Ramsey in Athens, but this time x 2.

    The Alfred E. Neuman Defense: What, me worry?

    Frankly, I keep forgetting that Charlie Strong is no longer in Gainesville, and he’s been as much of a boogie man for the Dawgs as Spurrier and 90s-era Fulmer were (I guess everyone was a boogie man in the 90s).

    I know the Gators “don’t rebuild, but reload”, but they have A LOT to put back in place. A guy like Charlie Strong doesn’t just walk out and have things stay the way they were.

    Ahem… FSU’s coach isn’t on the hot seat.

    FSU returns an experienced offense, but like Georgia, they are starting over on defense and they play Oklahoma, BYU, and Florida out-of-conference.

    FSU could improve this season, but their record may not show it.

    FSU is getting the nod this year b/c of Christian Ponder.

    They have Ponder. We have Murray.

    That’s it.

      And believe it or not, one could make a very good case that UGA has better defensive personnel than FSU.

      The reason that FSU is supposed to be gaining ground on Florida,more so than UGA is this little nugget;

      The last six year FSU is 0-6 against Florida. At least UGA has won TWO games over that stretch.
