… Most of Grantham’s background is in the NFL but he was aware enough about Georgia-Florida history to bring it up to players when he arrived in Athens.
“He brought up Florida even before we had played our first game,” Commings said. “He brought up Florida at our first meeting back in the summer.”
What did he say?
“It was, ‘If you want to kick Florida’s [rear], you better start working now.’”
You wonder when Martinez expressed the same sentiment.
[swoon]
I wanna tell ‘em that I love him a lot,
but I gotta get a belly full of wine…
The Dallas Cowboys seem to be missing his mojo now.

I heart CTG. While this year has been a substantial improvement (6 fewer ppg allowed in 2010 vs. 2009), the D is still a work in progress. He is going to make our opponents dread our defense again.
And therefore our team.
Can’t believe the Senator hasn’t posted a Dooley comparing his team to the Germans article yet. That one’s ripe for one liners.
Check Paul’s site. If you see the video, it wasn’t as bad as the written quotes make it seem.
Still, I’m all for mocking opposing coaches, even DD.
Something tells me, that no matter how the game turns out, it won’t rest on lack of effort by our defense. They’re going to be fired up.
I agree, the effort and intensity will be there. If the D can eliminate the blown assignments on Saturday, we will put another one in the W column. UF will not go down easily coming off three losses and an open week to stew on it….intensity won’t be lacking on their sidelines either. Let’s rock!
I’m kind of wondering the opposite. This is a kind of spot that UF hasn’t been in for years, even under the Zooker.
They don’t have someone like Tebow to make a promise or to rally the troops. Their season and their annual goals are all but shot. Who knows how a team like UF who is so accustomed to success will respond with two weeks to stew over a three game skid?
I don’t read their press or their blogs, but I can’t imagine Gator nation is blowing bubbles of sunshine right now, either.
And IF (that’s a big IF), the Dawgs jump on them early, will they quit?
Chris Rainey makes promises.
Fortunately, he doesn’t seem to keep them.

You would think not keeping promises would keep you out of Irwin’s “Top 1% of the Top 1%.”

I’m not a suspicious person, so I’ll say this. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Dawgs had the most complete game they’ve had in a long while. I think it’s coming….Take it for what it’s worth, which isn’t much.
I meant superstitious, not suspicious. Excuse me
Well, I am a suspicious person, and I also think the Dawgs are going to have their most complete game of the season.
You know, you can say it backwards,
Which is, Dociousaliexpiistic- fragilcalirupus.
That’s what Ramon Arrapaicrag would say.
I hope so, I’m still sore about that 47-7 loss we took my freshman year, and 49-10 in 2008, it would be great to return the favor in this millenia. I think they’ll play their best game of the year also, we’ll see who wins.
I dont think it takes their best game to beat uf. I am hoping for the best game vs Auburn.
Why do our DB’s look absolutely clueless at all times? Does anybody have any insight? I mean we loo absolutely lost out there in pass coverage.
I guess I’m use to it…..Arkansas game in 2009? Gee, my sister remarked at that game…”shouldn’t we have someone over there …near that receiver ?”
Did you see the Mizzou-Sooner game? That’s a lot of teaching that a kid has to get out of his system.
I’m guessing it takes more than a season to make someone Lakatos-tolerant.
Excellent. How long have you been waiting to use that one?
I’m sure I stole it from someone somewhere else on the Innertubes.
Yeah, you can’t get 5 years worth of Martinez out in one year, just like Willie couldn’t get 4 years worth of Van Gorder out in one either, hence the steady decline. There have been much fewer instances of opposing players catching passes with no one within a ten yard radius this year, especially over the middle.
Thats just Georgia.
When Donnan was hired, one of the first things he said was something like, “There is not enough hate around here for that school to the south. I intend to change that.”
I guess he did….once
and he broke that loss streak against the Vols.
Man, you’ve got a great memory of obscure 90′s coaching quotes!
Kudos!
Here’s a 90′s quote that you’ll wish you forgot:
“We never have set the woods on fire in Oxford…”
Chicken dinner for author and season.
I know it’s goff. I’m going with 1995.
Strikes me as a non-story. Talk is cheap (as are the shots at the old d/c). If TG’s charges can back it up, perhaps his motivational ploy will be remembered. Nobody will remember if ya’ll lose Saturday.
Wow.
Proud to be a Dick is back.
“Kansas.”
Hard to say anything when we lost to Colorado.
Jest saying.
Kansas beat N. Dakota State 6-3.
Points for: 112
Points against: 103
Sorry. Those are rankings, not actual points.
Actually, it’s worse than that.
Kansas lost to N. Dakota State 6-3.
Right, thanks.
And by the way Bluto, comment #2 at the top was just for you.
I caught the “Her Maj” reference. Well played, sir.
You’ll like the musical interlude post I’ve got coming up in a couple of days.
“Talk is cheap” says “Mr. I Am a Football Wizard and Everybody Else is a Dumb Ass, Just Ask Me.”
Nobody remembers if ya’ll lose on any Saturday because nobody cares about Georgia Tech football. Your own fans worry more about what UGA does than your own team.
Now back to taking apart Florida.
+1. Well said!
Much like it struck me as a non-story when Tech hired Ole Washed-Up Al. Who really cares? And aside from the fact that none of your fellow Tech brethren have come close to creating a blog this fantastic, I can’t fathom why you would ever be here.
That aside, happy upcoming Thanksgiving weekend. I look forward to your team’s futility reaching 1-9.
Sigh……per your goddess: “it takes a village” – and you are our idiot.
Honestly, I’m just hoping we keep it competitive.
But you’re right. Talk is cheap.
Sorry, but I don’t get the “talk is cheap” comment in this case.
Grantham didn’t make some grandiose pronouncement, like guaranteeing a win in Jax. And his comment wasn’t made to the general public, but to his players. As far as I can tell, what he said boiled down to two things: (1) although he was the new kid on the block, he was letting his players know he was aware of the game’s importance and (2) to excel, it wouldn’t be enough to want it; they were going to have to bust ass to earn it.
Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see anything there that I can’t stand up and applaud.
GT does not have time for motivation. It’s all about the system.

I was referring to a different comment by a different coach.

The only things left to do are: show the players a map of Florida, explain to them that it’s just another state like 49 others; then show them a Florida player, and explain that he has two arms and two legs, just like our players have. Then show the team a highlight film of all the Gators’ miscues from this season, and show them that there is nothing special about UF, and there is no reason why we shouldn’t beat them in a game of tiddly-winks, much less football. Goddammit, I am TIRED of this losing streak, and if doesn’t end Saturday I may crawl inside a bottle of Jim Beam for an early retirement.

Man, I hope CMR gets Hershel to do the pre-game pep talk. No fake juice, no over-hyped screaming. Just plain old-fashioned “taking it to ‘em”.
It is not hard because Todd has done a solid job making the D much better over Willie
With that said, if UF does what they usually do and beat us with a nice offensive beatdown, all this talk will mean nothing
