Now is the offseason of our discontent.

With the end of spring football, we hit the dreaded time for the college football blogger, the real offseason.  No National Signing Day to agonize over.  No coaching changes to analyze.  No practice reports to speculate about.  What we’ve got to look forward to until August are posts about past times, statistics (guilty!), occasional coach sightings and the usual pastiche of scooter and drinking incidents in Athens.

No wonder the conference realignment story took off like wildfire last year.

I’m hoping there’s gonna be something better than that to consider this go ’round, but my fear is that the NCAA is going to be the story of the summer, both about who and what are being investigated/sanctioned and in terms of how ineptly the NCAA goes about its business.  That’s almost too depressing to contemplate, as much as some of you would like to see certain punishments administered.

So I thought I’d ask – what, if anything, would you like to see taken up at GTP over the next few months?  Give me some food for thought and I’ll chew on it.

I just hope we can avoid a rash of stories about some of our guys driving mudcat’s car

I wouldn’t mind seeing some flashbacks to either great games in UGA history, or maybe some “where are they now?” stuff with either UGA players or notable rivals.

I’d like to see you take a shot at breaking down our troubles the last few years based on the following categories:

–Inexperience at QB. I note that the only years under CMR that we’ve lost 4 or more games (2001, 2006, 2009, 2010), we were breaking in one or more new QBs.

–Good overall talent, but lack of talent and/or experience at exploitable positions (e.g., secondary 2008 to 2010).

–Injuries. These seem to have been a lot worse the last few years. Is that accurate, or have just been paying more attention the last few years?

–OL. It seems like almost every year since 2006, we’ve had trouble putting together a healthy, experienced OL. Is this bad luck or a systematic failure in recruiting (i.e. not getting enough new guys each year)?

–Improvement in teams we play / SOS.

    –Coaching and scheme.

What I’m getting at is that it seems like for various reasons which change in different years, we just haven’t had a full team. To contend in the SEC the last few years, you must be a national title caliber team. Teams that contend for the national title (generally) have experienced QBs, experienced OL, and an experienced defense. My hypothesis is that our problems are not so much coaching, effort, S&C, drive, or anything like that, but simply having less talent and/or experience than our competition.

    What do you think?

Updates and opinion on college football playoff scenarios because I think that is where we are headed and if so it needs to be done right or else it could ruin the best sport in America.

To combat recent attacks, why the NCAA needs to send Emmert to work with Ailes to get some ideas from a true professional on PSA’s “showing who and what are being investigated/sanctioned and in terms of how ineptly the NCAA goes about its business” throughout history has always been in the players’ best interest

Offensive/Defensive schemes you would expect/hope to see this fall, given the strengths and weaknesses of the personnel we have on roster.
