Negative recruiting

I suppose you could call this a case of art imitating life:  a Rivals recruiting analyst accused a former Rivals site (and now Rivals competitor) of overrating some of Alabama’s recent recruits and pressuring for higher and unwarranted ratings.  Much hilarity ensued, evidently.

The player ratings are only as good as the rating service. If the rating service has an ax to grind, is less than competent or is armtwisted to rate somebody higher or lower the ratings can be unreliable.

Well, once you factor in the required +1 star “Saban Wants Him, He Must Be Good” bonus, you end up with the correct rating for a player.

Maybe. Don’t forget the -1 deduction for “He’s Committed To Georgia” that has to be added back in, too.

The article definitely got one thing wrong. BAMA doesn’t have to go 85/85 to be perfect, they have the advantage of trying the new 110/85 rule that is allowable in AL/SC/MS as a means of trying to achieve evaluation perfection.
