He’ll be here all season, folks. Try the veal.

You guys know I’m a sucker for gallows humor.  So kudos to Mark Richt, who got off a good line according to newly minted commit Derrick Henry’s head coach.

Henry’s a very talented rising junior running back about whom Richt had this to say:

Ramsay said that coach Mark Richt joked “I’m trying to see if we can graduate him after his junior year.”

Saban, Nutt and Cheatzik have already tried that.

Hope that comment isn’t seen as a violation. I didn’t think coaches could comment on recruits :/

    • BenG

This was the kid’s coach telling the writer what Richt said, not a direct quote from Richt himself.

Must be OK since he said it to his HS coach and the coach is the one being quoted

Actually, since the kid is 6’3″ 232, we could pitch him on a linebacker slot that just opened up …

Has anyone seen his tape? He’s an upright runner with speed. A taller, thicker Tyson Browning: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qz-UFmTIJRM

We already have one of these on the roster, and he just moved back to TB from LB. Find me a broken tackle in either of their tapes…

You can’t outrun the SEC, you need to relish, enjoy and invite contact. When Richt recruits running backs that can actually move the pile, I’ll start getting excited again.

Want to watch good running backs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NR3jby34wM4
    – Watch the 3:28 mark, and tell me you’ve seen a TB at UGa since ’07 willing to turn no gain into a gain of two like Thomas Brown
    – Watch at 9:53 for the best run of Knowshon’s career. Underappreciated because it wasn’t a touchdown, and it came after his halfback pass for a TD was called back, but absolute physicality from an instinctive runner with superb balance

    • Wow. The players in that HS tape all seem to be in slow motion. And I agree, when he runs I feel like I’m watching a WR run, not a RB.

Those Thomas Brown and Knowshon runs were great. I miss both those guys.

I think Richard can move the pile at 238 but he can’t juke anyone at any time.

Find some youtube clips of Keith Marshall. He’s the real deal. RB from Raleigh. Hopefull we’ll get him in February. He’ll play right away.

Looks like a tight end or linebacker to me. I agree with the above comments that he runs too upright. He may even grow into a DE. He could become a beast at OLB in the 3-4 though.

I’m sorry, but to me, Keith Marshall is another one that outruns highschool defenses, and benefits from a competent O-Line scheme. Not a lot of broken tackles, but truly impressive seperation despite the competition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6u7ElD8oJ5I

That said, Carlton Thomas’s highlight tape is incredible, and we’ve seen how that worked out.
