Les Miles does all the diligence due.

It’s nice that Zach Mettenberger sees his stint at LSU as the result from God’s plan.  Evidently the Almighty One didn’t require his new head coach to dig too deeply into what went into his old head coach’s decision to dismiss him from the Georgia program.

When you were recruiting Zach, did you by chance call Coach Rick(sic)? If so, what was the gist of some of those conversations? I certainly reviewed those guys that we recruit. I got the real view of the incidents and understand kind of what happened there, and recognize that certainly people make mistakes.

Translation:  I needed a quarterback.  Beyond that, if you don’t look too closely, you don’t have as much to worry about.

Another translation: I didn’t think it was much worse than what Jordan Jefferson did so we let him in.

Ummm…I don’t think our sins are part of God’s plan. He should just be thankful God is giving him another chance in spite of his sin. Time will tell if he is really giving God the credit for his new direction.

Yeah, I always get a little shy when people start talking about God’s plan because a) the arrogance required to say that you guessed it, know it or could possibly fathom it; b) it’s a phrase that usually follows the announcement of something that seems suspiciously close to the speaker’s own plan; c) if God is actively moving the chess pieces around, that makes him responsible for the bad stuff, too, which I can’t abide.

I’m afraid we’re stuck with our own free will to account for our actions, young Zach – just keep praying for guidance and…

Also, what moron at either myfoxal.com or the SEC’s transcript service doesn’t know how to spell Mark Richt’s name? He’s only the league’s longest tenured coach (at the same school, anyway).

Also, go read the transcript, folks! As part of a question about the LSU-Florida rivalry, someone made the statement that many media members have LSU and Florida picked to meet in the SEC Championship Game. That guy’s either making that up because he’s a Gator fan, or we’ve just let all the air out of Will Muschamp’s “no respect” coaching strategy.

That link is potentially not safe for work computers, by the way. A NSFW warning is always appreciated.

Everything I’ve read in the Bible leads me to conclude God is more interested in Zach’s spiritual growth after that drunken-sexual-harrassment-incident-and-then-lying-about-the-circumstances-to-his-coach “mistake”, and not in where Zach plays college ball.

Thank you, Senator. I ranted about this a bit over at the Mayor’s site yesterday.

    God’s plan, indeed.

Wow. That kid is some kind of arrogant. Also, he has some terrible theology.
