This certainly sucks.
#UGA WR Michael Bennett sustained torn ACL in right knee Tuesday. He is out for the rest of the season, school says.—
Marc Weiszer (@marcweiszer) October 03, 2012
Hate it for Bennett, who’s leading the team in receptions. If Georgia had to suffer an injury, though, wide receiver is probably the deepest position on the team. Conley and Mitchell need to step it up.
He has the most sure hands of all of our receivers. Sucks.
agreed. had some great hands going back to the USC game last year.
CC and MM def need to help fill that void..
Damn, just damn. He was quickly becoming one of my favs. Tough break for a tough kid.
He was my favorite & I thought the most dependable.
Of all the WR He Is the one I hate to lose the most.
Marlon Brown is the most capable of running the routes & catching the passes thar have been Bennett’s Forte.
Marlon’s ready. I think he takes on that role nicely.
That’s a blow, and really tough for him. I would wonder if he can get a medical redshirt, but since I’m pretty sure he’s really a disguised Kris Durham in his 8th year it is probably best not to even inquire.
haha @ the 2nd part.
in regards to the redshirt– 30% or less of the games so it looks like he can’t. sucks all around……………..
Wow, missed by one game.
If we play 14 games, he’d be under 30%. Or do is it only count for regular season games?
Only regular season games. 4 games is the max for a medical RS.
Yes, four games is max, but it doesn’t really matter since he already had his red shirt year. To get another year of eligibility at this point, he would have to apply for a sixth year – which could only be done after his fifth year, would require a lot more missed time, and is very hard to get. I hope that doesn’t enter the picture.
Not sure the 30% applies to medical redshirt. Thought a medical applied anytime it unfortunately happens. Good connection to Kris. You know that Bennett communicates at least once a week with Kris, don’t you?
everything i’m reading says <30% applies to medical redshirts as long as all the games are in the first half of the season. "hardship waiver" is the official term i believe.
Arrgh.
Had heard that earlier but didn’t know how bad ti was. Sincerely hate this much more for him than for the team. He is a gamer, somebody needs to step up as the clutch, go-to guy. We have good depth at receiver but there is a reason he has gotten more attention from AM on possession downs. Prayers that he will recover and regain that speed to allow him to prosper at the next level, he deserves to be rewarded for his hard work and dedication.
And here’s hoping woot got his inexplicable 3rd-and-long drop out of the way not a moment too soon.
That is bad news for him and for us. I guess MM will be back on offense full time now. Chris Conley will be in play more too. Praying for his recovery.
And both Bennett and Mitchell have been hurt in practice. Mitchell’s was freakish, but you wonder if they aren’t going all-out in practice.
After the tackling last week against UT…..
Damn! Why did I open my big virtual mouth yesterday and write “I s’pose we can add to the ‘good’ some possible S&C benefits, as perhaps evidenced by … (ii) (knock on wood, knock on wood, knock on wood) little lost playing time due to injuries”? My Momma always told me to listen to the little guy in the back of my head, and there he was, whispering “don’t say it, dumbass, don’t say it!” But, oh noooo…
Guess I’ll have to look MB up when he’s of age and buy him some serious bourbon, at the very least.
Now would be a good time. He’s not playing until next year, so there’s that not to worry about.
By the way, several of us have mentioned lack of injuries and we didn’t qualify the remarks with “Knock on Wood”. So the onus is on us. I don’t consider that to be faulted since Scorp is around to shoulder the burden by not worrying enough.
Wouldn’t it be easier to just blame Slaw Dawg and Scorpio?
Yeah, well, you could, but since I can only speak for myself, I damn sure ain’t tempted the Fates by talking about injuries…or Bama in Atlanta, or anything else beyond this week, thank you very much.
Losing Bennett is a real blow to the offense, not just because of his ball skills, but because of the true joy he brought to the field….He just loved it.
In my book you’ll always get special credit for having a bad case of the nerves leading up to Tennessee when I just thought you were nuts.
There is a learning curve when it comes to dealing with the Kharmic Bitches…hubris is something them gals just loooooove. ‘Sides, “nuts” is a relative term when you are talking about football fans in the South. I kinda think its cool.
FWIW & IMO… As good of a receiver as MB is, he’s a better downfield blocker. Without some of his blocks 3&4 don’t have as many long runs…:-)
You are most right about that….he’s one of those guys you tell to go out and have fun and he does….big loss.
If I would or would not do such a thing in re: an underage potential or possible imbiber, I would take into account the evidentiary risk of mentioning the would or would not-ed-ness on a public forum, even under a pseudonym. Perish forbid that anyone under the age of 21 should taste the bitter poisons of Kentucky mash before his/her/its time (which we who benefited from the 18 year old drinking age of yore say with all due hypoc… uh, humility).
Awful. Sorry to hear that.
I know when I read one of your posts this week about being healthy for a change I thought to myself “knock on wood”.
lets just all pray that the Drs are at their very best when they work on this young man—-MB=DGD
The 5 wide formation sounds less appealing now. We can obviously still run it, but damn, like others said, he was Murray’s favorite & most reliable target so far this season. WIN IT FOR BENNETT!!!
Still can go 5 wide. Brown, King, Mitchell, Conley, Wooten is still a pretty dangerous group.
let’s hope the other MB, Marlon can keep producing at the level he has so far this year. if he does, it will lessen the impact of bennett’s injury. hopefully malcolm mitchell returns to form as well.
With King, Brown, Mitchell, Wooten and Conley, no reason you can’t still run it. Though who knows if they will.
We could also split Rome or Lynch out in the slot.
Yet to see what Scott Wesley can do….McGowan is another set of good hands. Glad there’s depth
I’m on record predicting great things for JSW. Hope coaches give him a chance now.
Damn. Hate it for the kid. Seems like a great hard working guy. Speedy Recovery!
Crap!
Damn. Best hands on the team.
PLEASE get tid of the TABOOLA video ads.
They are literally making it painful to visit this site.
This is my #1 absolute favorite Bulldogs blog.
But the taboola ads are completely ruining it.
Thanks for the blog praise, but why are you clicking on the ads if you don’t like them?
I’m not clicking on them.
They are incredibly intrusive.
Large thumbnails appear above the fold on your front page.
Here is a screenshot:

I’ve seen ‘em. I just ignore ‘em.
I wish I could do the same. They are gigantic and hideous.
Also, they make the top post always “look” identical, so when I visit later its a lot harder to remember which post was the last one I had read.
In general they are just absolutely abominable.
Can’t you dump them, Senator?
As I mentioned in another post, I whitelist your site on AdBlock and want to keep it that way. But these are just horrendous.
Get Firefox, install Adblock Plus, and you won’t see them anymore.
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/
Ummm, I don’t think that’s the kind of posts GTP’s sponsers like to see.
I use AdBlock, but I have the Senator’s site whitelisted because I want him to benefit from the ads.
But the Taboola ones are just intrusive as heck and horribly distracting. They detract from the quality of the content.
There is a silver lining. Without Taboola, who could have known that “[“Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” star Alana], who is 6, was seen on the show eating ‘nearly expired junk food and road kill.’ While the family proudly proclaims their Redneck heritage,” which explains why I was seeing less road kill lately.
Did the “nearly expired” apply only to the junk food, or both the junk food and the road kill?
Good point. My guess is that the Child Services report would probably show that any nearly expired roadkill expired while mama was deep frying it for Honey Boo Boo. Child Services was more concerned about the “special juice” mixture of Mountain Dew and Red Bull which apparently contained no animal parts:
“Investigators were called to the home as a result of June and Mr. Thompson’s unorthodox parenting methods, which include feeding Alana caffeinated drinks as well as roadkill for dinner.”

Darn – I love me some White Lightning – get well soon, Michael!
Like the rest of you, I hate it….esp. for Bennett. What a great competitor he is! He will surely be missed, no matter how many other good receivers Georgia has to go to. He’s been the money guy for Murray.
Reminded me of Kris Durham..
Kid was much more impressive than Kris Durham. He’s much more similar to Reggie Brown in the way he plays the game.
Richt should have knock on wood when he was being interviewed about Bennett, and the lack of injuries with lady sportswriter. God Bless Michael Bennett.
All the more reason for Malcolm Mitchell to be on offense full time.
Really gonna miss Michael “White Lightning” Bennett’s attitude and demeanor on the field. He has been a great competitor and his work ethic in catching and blocking seemed to lift our receiver group. Liked the comment above, “WIN IT FOR BENNETT” and hope that is our rallying cry for Carolina. Michael Bennett = DGD!!!
Tough break for the kid. Hopefully he comes back strong next year.
Hate to hear that news. Hears to rehab and coming back strong next year.
In other news, this has ratcheted up my level of angst for this game exponentially.
Richt should have considered BENNETT like finding a Diamond in the forest on that Dawg NITE he was discovered. I still remember how Richt reacted when he made either his first TD or a pivotal catch in game last season. This should be a big disappointment to Richt. He seem to be really fond of Bennett.
I guess he’ll stay away from the KA house on Tuesday nights now…… their stairway is pretty steep
Sorry to hear this for Bennett. He’s a great player and will truly be missed. Hope he kills the rehab (no doubt he will) and makes it back next year at some point.
Tough loss for Dawgs. AM to Bennett was clicking. They were in sync on the routes and timing. Time for the other receivers (and TEs) to step up.
Turn, turn, turn again….dig me the Fairport Convention version. Get well soon.
Man, maybe my most obscure musical reference ever and you got it. Even the cover version. I’m impressed.
Sandy Denny’s vocals are sublime.
This will now really test Murray’s maturity and his ability to emotionally get over this disappointment, and to change his mind set to win against a ranked team on Saturday. NO EXCUSES PLEASE.
No excuses, no regrets. This is a loss but with the recievers we have featured so far, add Mitchell, Conley, and expand the roles of JSW, Wooten, and Brown it could be just a half-step back. Along with King, we still have a great group for AM to target. Very sad for Bennett but maybe the other receivers can get him a ring anyway. Got to believe, we didn’t really expect to go through the season without some bad breaks did we?
His down field blocking will be missed by Gurshall a lot. He would really get after the DB’s.
