I’m sure Kentucky wishes it could. Per one of the Wildcats’ beat writers:
Whitlow is really, really fast. He’s a guy who might be quite a weapon if he were a change-of-pace option, used like a Randall Cobb, in addition to injured QB Maxwell Smith. But he’s not. Because of injury, he’s the every-down QB … and he’s limited. He completed just two passes last week. With Smith at quarterback, UK averaged 34 completions per game through three games. Since he went down, the Cats have 40 total completions in four games. Unless Whitlow makes a dramatic improvement in a week, or the coaches scrap that plan and Morgan Newton is miraculously much better than he was last season (or in relief at Florida this year, when he threw three second-quarter picks), it’s hard to see Kentucky having any success through the air against a defense like this.
Before you jump on the “defense like this” observation, let me remind you that Arkansas’ pass defense makes Georgia’s look like Saban’s, and the Hogs managed to hold UK’s quarterbacks to an anemic 106.91 passer rating last week.
Which is to say that if you see the ‘Cats successfully throwing the ball all over the place tonight, my advice is to start drinking heavily.
Why is that the advice I always get from another Attorney we both know? “As your attorney, I advise you to start drinking heavily.”
Perhaps an ulterior motive? There is more than one way to get screwed by an attorney. BTW, do you actually have to pay for advice of that quality?
Actually it is free… kinda.
LMAO Hopefully it was a win/win.
Always…with Him
Take it easy, I am pre-law.
I thought you were pre-med?
What’s the difference?
They call me Dr,HODAD.
Agreed sir. Drinking heavily will be the answer if south cackalacky wins earlier in the day and Dawgs come out flat against Kentucky.
It is comforting, in a weird sort of way, to see somebody at least acknowledge the possibility of “if”….
If toad frogs had hip pockets they could tote pistols and wouldn’t fear snakes.
Now I’m worried about anybody who carries in his hip pocket.
If my Aunt had balls she’d be my Uncle.
This should be a fun game to watch: a motivated Dawg team, against an inept offense and a porous defense. But it is on the road, at night, in the SEC. Following the bye week I think UGA has to leave the starters in for 3 quarters just to get the game reps to be ready for next week. Hopefully that will be enough to built a margin larger than the 26 point spread and then get the backups some reps. We need some playing a solid win but we need to avoid injuries and get some experience for guys we will need later this year and who will be starters next season. Roll ‘em Dawgs!
But, as ever, the question remains — do we have faith enough in a “killer instinct” to give away the 25.5 pts. on the Dawgs? I do, but refuse to bet on them anyway.
The line is 28.5 on the Fabris CFB Pool. I took Kentucky. The Dawgs will win, but by 29???? Nah

I took Dawgs -15 1/2, Bama -10, and Auburn +17 on a 3 game teaser. Easier way to deal with it if we pull the starters and let KY make a mini-comeback.
Disappointed in Vandy, expected them to cover. Vandy Football is like a Greek Tragedy.

Played 3 teasers today and the only one I missed was the one where UGA let me down. Much more pleased with the finances of the day than our team.

Goodtime buddies,
Drinkin in some cross-town bar.
You left out: “I’ve been run down, I’ve been lied to.” Appropriate for this season.
Have you heard, “Down to Seeds and Stems Again Blues” By: Commander Cody and The Lost Planet Air Men?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9QIpSg6E_k
Preaching to the choir. That entire album is glorious.
I’m never frowning, or down in the mouth.
My window faces the South.
And in that same vein, I’ve been on a personal mission to update my LP collection to include all Cmdr. Cody releases. I am almost there. Don’t believe “Dopers, Drunks and Everyday Losers” was released in album form but, by God!, I’ll find it sooner or later on CD.
PS — good “Country Cassanova” reference.
“And my name is written down,
on the wall in every lady’s room,
in every bar in town.”
And did you know that the Commander has actually been making his bones since the band’s heyday as a working artist? His schtick is mostly representations of past musical icons.
And if Kentucky unsuccessfully throws the ball all over the field, you can still start drinking heavily. But do I really need to say that to this crowd?
Nein, Herr Dawg. Did we quit when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Had you mentioned the WL Weller bourbon some threads back? I actually located it at one of our fascist state-controlled brown liquor stores in this Quaker-ish state and aim to give it a go after my current stock is depleted.
WL Weller. Best bourbon for the money. Wheat.
The Gators have used some trick or “creative” plays on offense in this SC game. Do you think UGA will fall victim to the trick play once again? It sure feels like such plays always work against us.
Blacked out on ESPN3 in Austin, even though Texas is now an “SEC state.” But hey, at least I can rest well knowing I’d be in the same boat even if the SEC had elected NOT to dilute its brand and torpedo its scheduling cycle through expansion. Heck of a job, Slivey!
FSS -724 has it and ESPN on the net.
Yeah, ESPN blocked it out on the net, too. Looks like the only thing annexing Texas was good for was Mike Slive’s wallet.
you can find it at wiziwig.tv
You should be glad you can’t watch it…
Todd Grantham’s general defensive game plan this season seems to be:
1st half: Let them do whatever the hell they want.
2nd half: Stop letting them to *that*, and just hope they don’t adjust.
Even Kentucky is gashing us. On the ground, no less.
Are we officially allowed to start bitching about Grantham yet? This is pathetic. Shockingly so.
It’s all part of the Grand Scheme to lure the Gatahs in before closing the trap with a defensive performance the likes of which has not been seen since The Barn game last season. Or at least, fantasies cost nothing.
Well, the week off really seemed to have helped the defense. The Gators better watch out!
Just watched KY drive for a TD. What the hell is wrong with this D? UGA stands NO chance next week!
As the Senator illustrated, versus one of the worst teams in D1.
Should we start drinking if the D can’t stop the run OR pass? I’ve already cracked open a Guinness….
Does anyone think we should try a different KO return man?
I’m personally beginning to think we should keep Gurshall and try a different rest of the team.
Murray and the receivers had a pretty good game. Maybe we should keep them too, ya think? Just sayin.’
These guys look like they made a lot of the week off so far…..
Look like if Kentucky gets in third and long the run it right up the middle for good yards.
Special teams ….. well nothing changed here
So Logan Gray 2 or whoever is our designated punt fair catcher doesn’t even catch the punt so we get pinned deep..awesome. So far haven’t seen much improvement on O, D, or ST….
we suck
Yep
Well, we can still get a winner on first and bomb on occasion, anyway.
Figured it out. They watched the Fl-SC game and are already in shock knowing whats coming next week.
THIS DEFENSE IS AWESOME
We bite on every trick play in the Grantham era. That halfback pass took forever yet UK still picked up 50 yards.
Admit it, you”re watching the TN-AL game.
One minute into the second quarter and UK has about 120 rushing yards.
UK has 7 rush plays for more than 10 yards…and we are barely into 2nd quarter.
Wow..our defense blows. How can so many supposedly good players suck so much?
Umm, maybe our coaches aren’t any good?
They are ultimatlely responsible. Georgia just saw Fl blow SC away and give them life in the SEC East….this is how they respond? I’m losing faith in a coaching staff I’ve put a lot of faith in.
Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue…
Smoke’em if you got’em.
Whatever Grantham has been doing this season, he’s been doing it wrong. It is unfathomable how badly this defense has regressed.
Gotta get the big play because the offensive offensive line is never gonna dominate in this league.
The little plays would be nice to get too (i.e., PATs).
Woohoo..and another missed extra point..we’re in a shootout with the worst team in the conference because no one on this defense will step up and make a freaking play. The sad thing is that Grantham is getting schooled by Randy Sanders…the guy that everyone at Tennessee thought was horrible when he was there under Fulmer years ago.
And (as if on cue) there it is …. 3rd-and-DRAW!!!!!!!! It is becoming like watching a loop of all the past five years of Georgia’s Worst Hits.
Well..to be fair the third and long draw is working great for Kentucky against our horrid D….
All too true.
Looking forward to all the posts next week telling everyone they should be afraid of changing coaches b/c things don’t always get better when coaching changes are made.
When output never changes, through multiple classes of players, what other conclusion can there be?
It’s always the last line of defense used by the coach loyalists. Sometimes supplemented with “who else are we going to get?”.
It feels strange to say that Muschamp could likely outcoach CMR next week. Never thought I would type that two years ago. Maybe Will Friend holds CMR’s fate in his substantial hands — either bring in some maulers and get them cohesive or these bloodthirsty SEC D’s will keep AM doubtful. Will Ramsey use better decision-making? You gotta hope.
And there truly is no one more physical inside than C.Rob?
Cant blame the coach….he didn’t know before tonight that we had a PAT problem. This game is absolutley going to cost CMR his job…maybe even if he manages to squeak it out. Out coached and out played by the worst Kentucky team in three hundred years..How can you be SO uninspired?
UGA’s last 3 kickers: Blair Walsh kicked 119 straight PAT’s without a miss and was 184/185 overall. Brandon Coutu never missed a PAT in his career (114/114). Billy Bennett kicked 113 PAT’s in a row. It is quite rare to miss one.
Morgan has now missed 4 in a half season. We need to be recruiting another kicker. I think Richt was too focused on recruiting a kicker who could kickoff deep with hang-time. Morgan has issues.
The real problem is they don’t have anyone who can help the kicker when he goes bad. Also, still bad coverage on KOs.. We will continue having this problem until CMR wakes up and gets a ST Co-ordinator.
The surreal issue with Morgan is the number of times this season he has clanked the upright! It must be 5 times already, and I would wager that he could not do that if he tried in practice 100 times.
Florida fans gotta be laughing their asses off right now. Auburn has to be smacking their tiger jaws.
I don’t think Auburn would be smacking their jaws to play Savannah State right now.
If Georgia plays like this, they couldn’t beas Savannah State. They unprepared emotionally. That’s the problem and has always been the problem with CMR…Georgia is always FLAT and plays to the level of the competition..No killer instinct. You will win very few championships if you can’t play with blood in your eyes. Georgia can’t.
I agree that we have played horrible this season. But my statement was more about how bad Auburn has sucked this year. As bad as we’ve played at times, they have been hideous.
UGA has managed to “horrible’ its way to 6-1 so far this season. Don’t you think that “horrible’ is a bit much? I’ll bet that the Aubies wish they were this “horrible.”
For rhe record, I’m drinking heavily. This is embarrasing.
SEC officials sucking again.
The SEC refs suck, yes. But they suck FOR us in this game.
Arkansas had 461 yards offense led 42-0 after its FIRST SIX possessions against UK last week
John L. Smith will be available this off-season…
The noise from 350 Kentucky fans seems to be bothering Georgia’s O line….have a few false starts.
That’s what I was thinking..guess they didn’t practice with the crowd noise this week. But hey, it’s really tough playing in front of 15k or so fans.
Don’t blow this
Get rid of that idiot
which one? There are so many.
ATTENTION CMR….This season I have seen at least seven or eight high school place kickers who can nail it consistantly down the damn middle from inside the twenty. The UGA campus must have at least ONE…VERY LUCKY that bounce went inside the posts….it was way to close to PAT distance for my comfort.
Ug, I’m betting there are guys on campus right now who kicked in HS or who are on the soccer team who would be better. Keep Morgan for kick-offs but try out somebody else for EPs and FGs.
Next week is going to hurt.
You’d think, Turd, but it’s hard to figure. Today, SC was a victim of the very thing that has bought them success….ridiculous bad luck. But this is different…Kentucky hasn’t been lucky…hell..they dropped a touchdown pass and should be up on us…they have just lined up and kicked the Dawgs asses…plain and simple. That’s hard to understand after Florida handed them a new life this afternoon…..but yeah…the way it looks right now, next week is going to be bad.
Mark Richt must be the worst motivator ever. I truly don’t understand how you can’t have your team hyped after a crushing loss two weeks ago and then you find out that you once again are back in the hunt.
And Grantham seems to have learned the Richt/Bobo method of game planning..ie…come up with a “plan” and refuse to adjust it during the game no matter what the other team is doing. Next he’s going to tell us it’s all a matter of execution.
I heard a story about the UGA pre-game ritual recently and they said that the pre-game big speech is done by one of the OTHER coaches and then CMR comes in and says “lets go get em”.
Not saying that is the reason we suck. But the team no longer appears to be responding to him.
I hope to hell we don’t come out in polka-dot jersey’s next week.
The missed extra point is going to cost UGA big in one of these games.
luckily not in one of our BIG games b/c we lose those so convincingly.
Apparently, CMR don’t think so or he would have done something about it a month ago. Pulling my hair out. Georgia should start going for two, like the class B highscool football teams without a PAT kicker used to do.
… or me in my admittedly ill-advised gambling pursuits.
Some of these guys need to start the second half on the bench. Play some guys who haven’t been turned into zombies.
Scorpio…go change your hat!
Relax
Florida, Ole Miss, and Auburn are licking their chops just waiting on this team. The Auburn game is really worrying me. Might need it to get to the Meineke Bowl.
NOW worry!
three and out. great
Swann sucks too
So, can we expect a 28-0 second half schooling from the Dawgs?! Maybe a splash of inspiration to rev us up for next week…. (anyone)(anyone)?
I’m over it….after next week, McGarity should have every excuse to pull the trigger….I’ve been a Richt backer but it’s done and over….Peterson, anyone???
I truly don’t understand how you go from a top 5 defense to the POS we have on the field now.
28-3 … Please!
It’s really sad. They, the coaches, are trying to improve. Seems they don’t know how.
Well, thank the Lord that at least Mitchell has some pride.
Relative to the talent level, I’d have to say this is the most disappointing Georgia team I’ve ever seen. I was too young in ’92 to know what the full story was with that team, but I really can’t wrap my head around this season thus far.
I have no confidence in this coaching staff anymore. None. I just go into every game now expecting the worst.
“Throw the Dang Ball” Why should Kentucky do that when they can just run between the tackles and gash the Dawgs? BTW, one of these teams is 5-1 and the other is 1-6. Somebody remind me which is which.
Here comes the Turnover Train … 3 or 4 straight defensive scores to turn this game on its head. I’m calling for it now, Ye Gods!
But that would mean that someone on the defense would have to step up and make a play..
True dat. Past results don’t always have to render future returns moot?
Think the Kentucky defenders could give our guys some lessons on how to tackle?
As galling a gut-punch as this is, y’all should have a look at the ritualized evisceration taking place AT W.V.U. 52-7, KSU Wildcats before the 3rd qtr. is over. I am hard by the border of that lawless land of Mountains and I will be casting a wary eye over the hills in anticipation of fiery couches (and possibly cars tonight).
Mountains have that effect on folks. Dangers to mattress and couch
I tend to align myself with your opinion on that. It is something to do with the corn-in-a-jar and whatnot.
The Georgia defense sucks, plain and simple. No inside pressure whatsoever, and outside pressure taught only to rush two ways, wide and wider, seemingly never an inside move. The offense seems to have no real game plan in mind. Clearly, UK came in with the notion of running. What did we come in with? Running, throwing, reverses, bombs?
On a bright note, Chris Conley is alive.
lol.
Well, at least we can agree that THAT was a helluva TD toss.
All right, I’ll put it out on the table — that goofy Driskel scares the Dawg out of me about now. Not to mention the creativity of OC Pease.
I am to the point that I don’t even enjoy the games anymore. All it does is piss me off and put me in a bad mood. Constant underachievement and no motivation. Pathetic!
I’m right there with you, RD. It just pisses me off. If we were 10-2 and played up to or over our skill level, I’d be very happy. But 10-2 when we play down to the competition and don’t even bother to show up for the big games is very frustrating.
But look at it like this —- the lizards are most certainly overlooking the hapless lil’ Bullpups now. Can I get a “hallelujah!”
And they continue to refuse to field punts properly. Incredible!
Stop, drop and roll.
I’m at a loss as to why that continues.
Well, for some reason the game is blacked out in Texas on ESPN3 and SiriusXM via the internet. At first it pissed me off (and I don’t understand exactly what market they are protecting), but I guess I should be glad I don’t have to watch this steaming turd being laid.
Florida is going to absolutely brutalize us next week.
Why is it that the only time I really see passion and aggression from CMR is when he is jumping all over our own players for being too passionate and aggressive?
Maybe the last time I saw that was his applause after the gator stomp.
Yeah, our defense sucks this year (badly) but we still commint personal fouls and taunt the other side like we’re really good.
But don’t forget he apologized for that and then lost the next two to FU by a combined 50 points or so.
So IF we win this game it will basically be because of a roughing the punter call and that UKs more effective QB couldn’t play the whole game….pretty sad.
No. Because Conner Norman made a heads up play on the onside kick.
And AM is a good quarterback.
Right. And in fairness, they do both play for the Georgia Bulldogs…we can’t exclude them from the analysis because they’re doing well.
Why are we hiking the ball with the 15 seconds still on the play clock?
Believe with a time out the game clock does not start until the ball is hiked.
And that last TD drive is, deplorably, what separates the Dawgs from UF. the Gators don’t allow a punching bag like the Cats to go down methodically for that score. Hell, look at previous years’ scores. UF hasn’t beaten the Cats by less than 20 for, like, a decade or more.
We need SJ3 and all his repressed hoodoo jive for next Saturday, boys.
God, this thread has become downright distressing. I am going somewhere happier until the Sun comes up.
Commentators all night: “Kentucky has done better at ______ tonight than they have all season.”
That’s “the Georgia way.”
The highlights of the season so far are the Vanderbilt game and the 4th quarter of the Missouri game.
We’ve played up to our potential in one game this year. One. And it was against Vanderbilt.
It’s all crystal clear now, isn’t it? We have everyone back from last year plus two terrific new running backs, but we’re barely better than Tennessee and probably would lose to them at their place. We obviously do not deserve to be ranked at all. The reason those earlier games were sloppy and closer than they should have been (other than Vandy) is because we just weren’t all that good to begin with.
We just need to get more consultants, you know, like Alabama does.
Next week is big for Mark Richt. UGA has lost 10 straight against teams ranked in AP top 25. Last win against a ranked opponent was GT in 2009. Since the Hawaii game, Georgia has 2 wins and 15 losses against teams ranked in top 25 (Mich.St in 2008 and GT in 2009).
UGA’s last win against a ranked SEC team was against Florida on Oct. 27, 2007 – the one where the entire team ran out on the field after Moreno’s score.
WOW, Can you believe we have not defeated a top 25 ranked SEC team in 5 years?
Since that 2007 UF game, we have played 10 games against ranked SEC teams and lost all those games (0-10).
I can. It seems like I’ve been watching that happen all of my life.
Echoes of 2008 here. An underachieving team that got smoked by good teams and barely held on against mediocre ones. We still won ten games that year – and still should be able to win as many this year – but I can’t help but think we’re on a similar trajectory (8-5 then 6-7). Nothing this coaching staff is doing leads me to expect otherwise.
Maybe the Dawgs get some even-handed officiating this game, as opposed to what went down in ’08. I couldn’t absorb another 49-10, though this UGa D seems capable of bleeding 40 points.
I’m glad we won but I don’t remember being as disappointed in a win. Pretty pitiful.
I do. Tennessee. This year. I felt like we lost.
I’m gonna take one shot at this, then move on.
Kentucky always plays Georgia tough in Lexington, no matter what they had done before, no matter what Georgia had done before.
Always.
There are many good reasons for this, not the least of which is that Kentucky’s football team is heavily populated with kids Georgia either did not want at all, or had only some vague interest in coming out of high school.
There is nothing that tends to focus young minds like a put down.
As an aside, against South Carolina, which was, until Saturday, the benchmark opponent of Georgia’s season…Kentucky was ahead 17-7 at the half.
Which is a little better, I seem to remember, than Georgia was doing in Columbia at the half.
Georgia, on the other hand, had their asses handed to them by South Carolina the week before going to Lexington.
Despite what the writers may write, and the players may say, getting the shit beat out of you is depressing, discouraging and discombobulating.
I really find it almost impossible to conceive how anybody who has watched, played or even read about football for any significant length of time is even surprised that Georgia was a bit lackluster in Lexington.
And yet, here most of us are, including, apparently our fearless leader; whining, bitching, firing coaches and dismissing theirs and their players’ comments as bullshit.
What I am going to say here is that Georgia is a good, but not great football team with significant problems in exactly the areas that should have worried the studious fan before the season started.
I have no explanation for the apparent regression of the defense, which one would have thought would be a team strength, but again, Kentucky had South Carolina, which had a defense that was pretty good against Georgia, down 17-7 at the half.
I think the relevant point here is that it was Kentucky. No matter how many times you tell somebody Kentucky is better than they seem to be, it would take a very special Georgia team, indeed, not to have in the backs of their young minds, that, after all, this is just Kentucky.
Having said this and all the above, the only thing that matters to me is that we got out of Lexington with a win.
Hopefully, assuming we still have a coaching staff next week, and that Greg McGarity has not reacted the way most of us here seem to be, we have to get ready to play a really good team.
I’ll tell you what was bullshit, Senator: what was bullshit was that Urban Meyer left the cupboard bare in Gainesville. The only bare cupboard that was bare in Gainesville was the one in the mind of Urban Meyer.
Florida is a lot better football team than Georgia…at least they were Saturday.
But you know what? Weird shit happens during football games, if you don’t believe that, watch the Kentucky- Georgia replay.
I suspect Georgia will be a little more interested in Florida than they were in Kentucky…whether it will matter… well that remains to be seen, does it not?
Pick your hats with great care, boys.
Guys, here’s a little musical interlude I listen to when things like last night happen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zs8dsERsal8
