Man, six paragraphs is almost all it takes to make me feel sorry for Butch Jones.  Almost.

so…da vols are basically paying for two football coaching staffs…some of their fans (those who still care about football) would, based on what they saw last year, they hope this is enough coaches.

  2. The idiots in Knoxville should never have agreed to hire Sal Sunseri at that staggering price tag if they did not plan to keep Dooley & staff intact for at least one more year. Everyone who has made the switch from a 4-3 to a 3-4 has had a terrible transition year (Alabama, Georgia…). Did Tennessee think they were exempted from this?

It may have been necessary to fire Dooley for the psyche of the fan base. But, seriously, does anyone outside (or inside for that matter) of the Knoxville faithful think Butch Jones, John Jancek, and Willie Martinez are going to bring a renaissance to the Sunsphere? Wasn’t Dooley supposed to be the interim guy that stabilizes the program until you can find an A+ caliber coach? And, now, you are turning the whole program over again?

I certainly am not one to accept mediocrity out of fear of not doing better, but at some point you have to show some patience and tell the fanbase to suck it up, right? They got what they wanted when they got rid of Fulmer. They got a splashy name as a coach in Lane Kiffin. Giving the fans what they wanted screwed the pooch. And, they continue to let the fans run the program?

As a Georgia fan, I am taking notes, and enjoying the demise of an SEC East rival.

May their years in the wilderness continue for a while. I am LOVING it.

All seven Vandy fans had a meeting. They issued a communique expressing their sympathy for the Vols. This was not received well in Knoxvegas… The Vols have fallen further in their own minds than in reality, if that is possible.

Long may the bums stew in their own juices.

What is a mystery is why the hirers and firers aren’t fired right along with the coaches. The coaches are to be congratulated for having agents who, it appears, are a touch more brilliant than all the lawyers that UT can hire for contract approval.

What exactly are they doing by tacking on contract compensation after firing ? Two to three months seems to be sufficient in big money industries when firing mngmnt. Are these agents of such keen minds or do the UT lawyers blow?

I can see contracting a great coach for years out, but what exactly did any coach do to show that they were great? Without big players, these coaches have proven to be pedestrian and given coaching credit where it was not due. Is the only criterion for judgement based on Ws/Ls ? It certainly appears that way.

Cojo let’s just say I sure wish I had me one a them agents when I began my misbegotten career….hell I would probably still be being paid by some newspaper somewhere.

The combination of fans with rabies and mediocre managers is deadly.

Cojones, 2-3 months isn’t typical for managers at the pay scale of these coaches. Minimum of of one year for termination without cause, usually 3-5, especially for the HC who is most certainly a senior level manager in their organization. For assistants, who are asked to relocate their families to an area where there are no other local jobs for them should they lose their employement in CFB, I think at least one year is reasonable. Not defending the UT handling of staff decisions but it isn’t the contracts they have flubbed on, it was the hiring and firing decisions.

I join the others on this post who is truly enjoying their misery. No UGA fan is celebrating their demise more than I. They were an arrogant group with no basis for that attitude, in fact, they still are. TN has been a really good CFB program, but they got way ahead of themselves. I wish we had played them regularly before Goff took over and I look forward to closing the series gap again this fall.

How far has UT fallen?…..Since 2008…

    Vandy 26 – 37…. 3 bowl games

    Kentucky 27 – 36…. 3 bowl games

    Tennessee 28 – 34… 2 bowl games

The really sad? part is that in talking to a really die hard Cinci fan he said that they were glad Jones was gone. So UT has once again been Kiffined but not in a good way.

They’re used to it. After being Majored, Fulmerized, Kiffined and Dooleying around, they’re really going to have the Jones now.

Those 6 paragraphs are music to my ears (especially after those years of hearing Volfan taunt us with “3rd in the SEC East.” May they forever live in the bowels of the division!)

  9. AthensHomerDawg

My neighbor doesn’t fly his giant UT flag on game day anymore. I hope he can find something useful to use it for.

  10. Lorenzo Dawgriguez

Evidently Vol fans still like to pick fights at basketball games, per this weekend in Athens. Not smart to curse cops at away games, but who ever said Junior & Lulu were smart?

  11. BMan

Despite knowing some pretty decent folks that happen to be UT grads/fans, f— Tennessee. Nothing makes me feel sorry for them.

  12. Cojones

While UT has been going through this period, can anyone tell me what their fans have ben blogging for 2-3 yrs (i.e., we were carving up two coaches during the same period, but fans were wrong). Were they behind most of the turnover ? Any Dawgs in Tenn been reading them?

Dedicated to UT. You should have listened to Joe.
