Spurrier: "I just don’t sense a hatred between Georgia and South Carolina that there is between Georgia and Florida."— Josh Kendall (@JoshatTheState) September 04, 2013
Aaaannnnd… the obvious musical retort:
Filed under 'Cock Envy, The Evil Genius
Almost forwarded this earlier.
“I don’t get near the hate from the Georgia side I used to get,” said Spurrier. “It’s hard, you’ve got to realize it’s hard for Georgia to really get mad at South Carolina. They’ve got so many teams they’re mad it or are mad at them. It’s hard to get another big rival for Georgia. They’ve got Georgia Tech, Florida, Auburn. They almost had a fight with Vanderbilt a couple years ago, some of their coaches, at least…We still haven’t beaten them enough for them to sort of circle South Carolina. But we’ve been fortunate the last few years.”
Love how he can always get a dig in there.
I love him. I know UGA fans should hate him, but dammit, how can I when he’s quote gold?
He’s mellowed a little. Actually admitted we outplayed his team after the 2011 game.
I have not listened to local sports or read the sports section the past two weeks. I live in Greenville and it has been painful. Hopefully things go our way Saturday and I can relish watching and reading.
I assure you it’s been painful in Columbia the last three years. And that rooster is about the crow from the top of the building next to me in 3-2-1…
I may not have hatred for USCe, but I have plenty of enmity for SOS. I have 3 wishes for him: First, I hope his handicap goes over 50, Second, I hope the fleas from 1000 camels infest his groin, and lastly, I hope his wife’s legs grow together. How’s that?
“May the Bird of Paradise fly up his nose”!
I hope a sex-crazed rhino takes a liking to his car.
Or ear …
There’s something about Steve that doesn’t project a look of hatred
He looks like Charley in “Flowers for Algernon”.
Some say he favors Algernon without the Trooper-style visor. There has to be something in the Durham water that gives the Dook coaches the dreaded case of ratface
Best musical retort ever? I vote yes.
Add to that the fact that it’s the Smiths, one of the iconic bands of my time in Athens (early ’90s).
What year, SCD? I’m ’92.
1993. Took 2 quarters off and graduated Spring 1993.
I betcha we crossed paths a time or two.
Spurrier is a Cock … Happy now Ol Ball Sack?
Steve has a chip on the shoulder in search of a cause.
Difficult for South Carolina to hate UGA as we’ve laid down for them the past few years.
I don’t know, I definitely hate South Carolina. Even before we started embarassing ourselves to them on a yearly basis they were by far my least favorite group of people to have in Athens.
Well, I mean… Auburn fans. So, not for me, but easily second.
Tennessee…and thanks be to Butts-Mehre that gators never make it to Athens.
They do for basketball games. I know what you’re thinking: “What’s basketball?”
But yeah, seeing people clad from head to toe in orange & blue on my beloved campus really just doesn’t seem right…
I stand corrected…
As bad as Cock fans want it to be, this game just isn’t a rivalry.
Spurrier-UGA certainly qualifies, though.
Wow! Tons of point for The Smiths reference. I’m 50 this year, and they were such a huge part of my youth…I’m not even a dork either….
It’s odd to me how much the Smiths and R.E.M. have in common, emerging from completely different environments on separate continents, each with a batshit crazy singer, jangly retro-style guitarist, great bassist, and a ton of great songs. I’m a big fan of both.
…and the return of the Rickenbacker to rock music.
“Congratulations to Clemson on their big win over Georgia. They’ve beaten two SEC teams! They could practically call themselves the 2012 Missouri Tigers with that many SEC wins. Kind of comparisons you want to be made about your football team.”
