It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you survive the game.

This is getting ridiculous.

Gators left tackle D.J. Humphries sprained the MCL in his left knee during Monday’s practice and will miss two to four weeks, coach Will Muschamp said Wednesday during the SEC teleconference.

Humphries, a 6-foot-5, 285-pound sophomore, started the season’s first six games, but was replaced in the starting lineup to open Florida Oct. 19 visit to Missouri following a poor performance a week earlier at LSU.

Nebraska transfer Tyler Moore, who has struggled this season, as well, will move from right tackle to left tackle to replace Humphries. Junior-college transfer Trenton Brown, who stands 6-foot-8 and weighs 361 pounds, will make his first college start at right tackle during Saturday’s matchup with Georgia.

Seriously, it’ll be worth applauding whatever kids are left standing on the field when the game’s over.

By the way, those of you concerned with a rash of trick plays and new schemes from the Gator offense should pay attention to the rest of the article.  Namely this:  “Quarterback Tyler Murphy has been sacked 10 times and hurried 13 times during losses at LSU and Missouri.”  Boom’s a lot more worried about keeping his quarterback upright than he is about installing that really neat halfback pass play.  Especially with two new/quasi-new faces on the offensive line, one of whom’s “struggled this season”.

This is shaping up to be one really ugly game.

For the first time in 10 days I finally feel confident about this one. I know it’s too bad about the guy and all, but I am nearly to the stage of relishing opposing teams’ medical mishaps.

Dawgs can rush the h*ll out of this offense and cause confusion and big mistakes. The one thing that will push my buttons re: CTG is if the blitz is not ON for most 2nd and 3rd-and-long scenarios.

Had an earlier feel of a score but now I adjust it uglier pro-Dawg.

  2. The Lone Stranger

O, and this would appear to be a game custom made for the Pastor of Disaster.

When the Vikings were playing the Giants one announcer said something to the effect of “this is a really bad game being played poorly by two awful teams.” I think this week the Georgia Florida story may be something along the lines of “hang on a second, we’re not sure who that player is, he doesn’t appear on any of our rosters.”.

  4. UFTimmy

The last two teams we’ve played have both had players win defensive lineman of the week after our game. This obviously will not help.

For the record, both our starting tackles are now out of this game (Chaz Green has been out for the season). The new starters at the positions are primarily guards.

  5. I Wanna Red Cup

OK. I am now convinced we will win. If we keep turnovers to no more than one and do not allow a “special teams” score we are going to win by 2 TDs. If our offense was intact from LUS game I would predict a real blow out.

Red Cup, there are almost 3 days between now and Sat kick-off, with innumerable opportunities for injuries, arrests (warranted and otherwise), suspensions, initiation of inscrutable (and interminable) NCAA investigations, meteors falling out of the sky, and what have you. Unless CMR wraps our guys up in bandages, locks them in a bomb proof shelter and transports them to the game in M1 Abrams tanks, I’m taking nothing for granted between now and then.

      • paul

Larry would be proud of you.

        • Slaw Dawg

I’m pretty sure Larry would also have mentioned the risk of air and water borne pathogens.

          • mwo

Has anyone seen the officiating assignments? Is Penn Wagers gonna fuck us again or does another crew get a chance to officially end our season?

            • Dog in Fla

Way to go, mwo. After the Mayor wore himself out yesterday, now he’s going to get all excited again.

          • Dog in Fla

Risk management was always foremost in Larry’s mind. Back during the Spurrier reign of terror against Ray, didn’t Larry also say, “they beat it with a metal steel chair but they still can’t kill the beast.”

I’m beginning to wonder if the college football playoff championship will be more about the healthiest team and less about the best team.Especially as more teams are added. Unless of course we define “best team” as that team that avoids catastrophic injuries. Anyone think that absent Willis McGahee shredding his knee that Miami wins that NC and Ohio doesn’t.

    • Will (the other one)

If Colt McCoy stays healthy I’d say Bama’s perfect 2009 season at least far more in doubt.

  7. The fact UGA is in a far more healthy state than Florida is amazing to me with what UGA is dealing with. This game is going to be a shitshow, and it’s one where the Georgia D has to bring it’s A game (assuming it has one). Florida is going to stack the box and press the depleted UGA WRs (none of whom seem to be able to get open right now). Gurley is going to see 8- and 9-man fronts. If there was ever a game for Lynch and Rome to bust out, this would be the one.

The scariest part of this game is how strong Florida is on Special Teams paired with the utter ineptitude UGA plays with on that front.

    • The Lone Stranger

From the stats I gleaned: Team Punting is a near dead heat; I don’t believe UF has a worthwhile placekicker; UF creams the Dawgs on KO & Punt Return defense (as in Top 10 nationally vs. Dawgs >100th); UF also is in the Top 10 in KO Returns while UGa is down in the bottom quarter.

So, long story short, when a kick is being returned worry, but should FGs loom large take the Dawgs.

    • hunkerdowndawg

Bobo needs to dig deep into the archives and run the “Tron Jackson Reverse” on the very first play. Send Gurley on a toss sweep but the ball comes back around the other way with our fastest guy still in uniform.

  8. uglydawg

I’m still concerned about the trick stuff….if Scorpio says not to worry, then I’ll quit worrying.

    • I assume they’ll mix some stuff in, but it will be one play, two at the most. They’re going to throw the WR screen (bubble and tunnel) often as everyone does nowadays. I would think the zone-read stuff would be minimal due to Murphy’s shoulder being jacked up. I think this is a game UGA could very well lose, and that has everything to do with terrible special teams play and an OL that can’t seem to pass block right now. UF is truly a terrible, terrible offense. And the defense is so banged up it went from elite to better-than-good (at best). If Gurley can get 4 YPC against 8- and 9-man fronts, UGA should win by 14+, but that’s only if Barber/Frix/Theus doesn’t screw it up (again).

      • Well duh, there are only 2 teams playing so either one could “very wll lose”.

      • So. IL Dawg

Want to stop the zone read stuff? Just focus on hitting the QB no matter what on every play. It only takes a hit or two and they’ll stop calling that play. that’s how they handle it in the NFL. A big push in the middle and hit the QB.

        • I Wanna Red Cup

You must be forgetting about those targeting penaltiies that must be called when in doubt. There is no doubt in the SEC refs minds when the team wears red shirts and silver britches or white shirts and silver britches and has a red helmet with a G on it. And look out for the old stomp of the foot delay of the game penaltyon our punt unit.

          • stoopnagle

So, you’re saying to break out the Joe Cox Gramblingesque black hats/white shirts/black pants combo?

            • The Lone Stranger

Why not get all Darth Vader on them, and roll out all-blacks! That has not been accessorized yet.

      • Will (the other one)

Yeah. Also, Boom figures his D/Special Teams might be good enough to win if his craptastic offense doesn’t turn it over, so I expect most of Peese’s playcalling to make “Bobo with a 2-score lead” look like Baylor by comparison.
If we can get something going in the passing game, we should win. If not…well I wouldn’t be surprised to see a 2-2 game decided by the first ever 4th OT safety.

  9. HVL Dawg

    Ugly?

I can’t imagine anything ugly about gator tears.

  10. Cousin Eddie

I really wish UGA was at 100%, oh man that would be sweet. Would love to see Murray put up 77 pts. (but with Grantham calling the D and the “special” teams he still might need to).

  11. JAX

We have Murray and Gurley, who do they have?

But they have D (but less of it) and we can’t seem to find ours.

So it’s the battle between the moveable force and the stoppable object.

    • Will (the other one)

I fear Solomon Patton burns us on at least one long play due to shoddy tackling outside (5 yard pass that gains 40+).
      But that’s about it.

  12. hunkerdowndawg

The burning question is “Can our defense make their offense look serviceable like we did Tennessee?” I think the answer is that our defense will play well against the run and will only be susceptible to an occasional big play on the pass, maybe yielding 14-17 points that aren’t special teams/turnover short field related. First team to 24 points will probably win this. However, I would have said the same thing about the Vandy game. Only God knows what will happen and he may not even be sure.

    • JAX

Murphy might move the chains with his legs, but he hasn’t practiced much in three weeks due to a bad throwing shoulder, so don’t expect him to wing it downfield much. Of course, Muschamp could be full of sh*t.

  13. Always Someone Else's Fault

I think it comes down to special teams. Who has bodies left for them?

  14. I’d be surprised if either team breaks 20 points. UF has a lot of injuries on defense, but unless I’m mistaken, their CB’s are all pretty healthy (correct me if I’m wrong). Those guys are REALLY good, and we don’t have anybody who can consistently shake them like Mitchell did for us last year. I agree with everyone who has said we can expect the gators to stack the box. I expect Gurley to have a lot of really short runs, but I’m hoping he can get 2-3 where he manages to get through that first line, into the second level of the defense where he will have daylight to make things happen. Here’s hoping that 2-3 big plays from Gurley and hopefully 1 or 2 big plays in the passing game will somehow put us in the neighborhood of 17 points. As bad as our defense is, we should be able to hold their offense to 14 or less. The rest is up to special teams.

    • Florida pass defense is sliding a little bit this month, which isn’t surprising given the injury situation.

      • Yeah playing Mizzou and LSU’s WR corp will do that — but unfortunately our WR corp as it stands – especially if no Conley and a less than 100% Bennett – is going to be the least explosive group they’ve had to cover in a while. I expect them to blanket our guys pretty well. Would love to be wrong. :)

        • Will (the other one)

We’re going to need some guys to step up at TE and in the slot and/or 4th WR spot. Purifoy and Hargreaves will take our top 2 options away most of the time.

  15. ZeroPointZero

I’m sorry, but I hate them all and hope we curb stomp their remaining healthy players into submission. I want to beat them so badly that the MFRs driving around Atlanta scrape the cheesy bumper stickers and life sized gator head decals off their cars. No pity here. Salt their fields like Scipio and drive them into the sea.

  16. Came into this game last year down two starters, Marlon Brown and Abry Jones. Murray had a QBR of like 9.8 and we had 14 penalties for 132yds. The difference was creating those 6 turnovers. Side note Marshall has 4 carries for 4yds he was non factor. We have to ride #3 like Seabiscuit. Special teams needs to play lights out as well. If we can get any kind of a pass rush early I like our chances. Just my thoughts

  17. 69Dawg

For the last 20+ years we have been kicked by Karma for all Dooley’s wins. After the way we have lost some of these games I’ll wait until Saturday night before I will even think we can win. Our Special Teams give up 14 points against air and UF’s special teams aren’t air.

  18. AthensHomerDawg

Boom will load the box and invite Bobo to beat them with the pass.Who can stretch the field for us. Will Murray have time for young receivers to gain position? Even if that is a draw the special team play will make or break us. Anyhow I will be surf fishing for reds and grilling grouper. It was suppose to be a guy weekend this time but somehow the brides are coming. Go figure. I invited my sons too. And they invited a few friends. Meh… I suppose I’ll miss the crowd one day. I can still walk the beach with my bride.

  19. Irishdawg

Jesus Christ, is this Bull Run? How do 2 teams get this trashed by injuries in the same year?

  20. Cosmic Dawg

I think the coach that can convince his team to come out fired up after a disapppointing first half of their season wins this game. If, despite all the happy talk, we come out looking like we just rolled out of bed and dad axed us cut the grass, as we did in Nashville, well, we’re gonna lose.

  21. Spooky

It is whether you win or lose. Cause if Georgia loses somebody better get fired
