$81,499.59, including taxes

Especially in light of the previous story about Auburn’s finances, this sure strikes me as money well spent.

Georgia picked up the tab for the buyout in Jeremy Pruitt’s Florida State contract when it landed the national championship-winning defensive coordinator in January.

The school made a one-time lump sum payout of $81,499.59 to Pruitt to cover his buyout and taxes, according to Georgia executive associate athletic director Frank Crumley.

Both Pruitt and Bobo are under contract now.  (Comparatively speaking in the context of what other SEC coordinators are making, Bobo’s deal looks like a steal for the school.)

I thought Bobo would get a pretty good bump. It does look like a steal, compared to our brand new DC with one year’s experience as a DC. Although, I am just looking in from the cheap seats.

A year ago this month Bobo got a cool quarter million bump, a three year contract and became the 4th highest paid offensive coordinator in the SEC. Looking at all assistants in the SEC. At the end of 2013 out of the top 23 highest paid assistants Bobo was number 11.
Michael Adams while presiding over his last Athletic Association Board of Directors meeting at the Kind and Prince stated “It’s going to take some discipline from this board moving forward and from the administration. There are some places that are running headlong toward the cliff. Assistant coaches salaries, incredible money being spent on revenue sports.”
I get it everyone wants Georgia’s son to be rewarded. Well almost everybody. But where is the ceiling for coaches?

Homes, I gotta tell you, Michael Adams is gone, but, obviously not forgotten.

          Scorp… Adams ain’t really gone.
“Incoming president Jere Morehead will take over for Adams after he retires on June 30.

“I think we want to make sure the athletic department spends its resources wisely and remains in the black,” said Morehead, currently UGA’s provost.

“Said athletic director Greg McGarity: “It’s not a rosy picture at every institution. We’re very fortunate.”

So if Louisville paid Grantham’s buyout, UGA made money by hiring Pruitt when Grantham left? If that is true, there is no better example of a win-win, provided Pruitt is an upgrade, right?

“First of all, I like the job I have; I enjoy being the defensive coordinator at Georgia,” Grantham told me in an interview earlier this week. “I enjoy coordinating and I enjoy football in general. But I think any time you’re in a profession, you’re always looking to take on the next challenge. What’s the next challenge? Being a head coach is obviously a challenge.

After following Spence’s link I wonder if CTG is secretly the HC in Waiting at Louisville. “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

If he hires a hot special assistant, will Grantham take the towel boy to the motel?

I’d call that a bargain. The best I ever had. The best I ever HAAAAD……

Still laughing at Georgia’s penny-pinching athletic department for including the number of cents in its announcement.
