A picture worth a thousand words?

I don’t have my 2014 Steele yet, and I don’t subscribe to ESPN Insider, so this is just an educated guess on my part, but I’m going to assume that an article entitled “Ranking the top five CFB teams” with this picture…

… means Mr. Steele thinks we’ve got a contenda.

Of course, finish fifth this season…

Finishing 5th might just be too much to take this season.

  2. watcher16

Just checked my insider: Not top 5

    1. FSU
    2. Bama
    3. Ohio St
    4. Oklahoma
    5. UCLA
  3. King Jericho

Finishing 5th this season might be the most Georgia thing ever.

  4. HVL Dawg

5th is 3rd this year. Right?

  5. Cojones

I ain’t no “Insider”so can’t read past FSU. Wanta tell us what it said? Is watcher16 correct?

I received my PS magazine last week and have it in front of me. His Top 40 preseason has UGA at #7. This is where he predicts each team will finish the season. This factors in his nine sets of Power Ratings (where UGA is seen as very strong by him, overrated by me) and then his schedule strength. He has UGA’s strength of schedule at #35 so he sees us finishing higher than, say Auburn, because he has them facing the 5th most difficult schedule nationally. He also has UGA as his #1 team to surprise. As usual, a lot of braggadocio involved but he has a zillion stats to back up all his calls. Indeed, he can make your head hurt but you have to admire his effort.

Mac, I wonder if Steele owns stock in mental health clinics in Georgia…he sure is setting us up for visits.

I agree, after reading some of the magazine this weekend I think he has been over at Cojones’ place and must have been taking deep breaths. He has our defense as the #6 overall unit in the country. In his defense, this was written before the mass exodus in the UGA secondary and he does plan to update some things based on suspensions, transfers, and injuries. But this is exactly how we end up getting labeled underachievers. PS has UGA in his Top 15 on several unit rankings. He is setting the Munson’s among us up for cardiac problems.

FWIW losing the DBs that left the Georgia program since last season is a positive IMHO. They couldn’t/wouldn’t tackle or cover last season why could/would they this season? Plus, they were head cases and bad apples. Good riddance.

Last year, Steele had us a preseason #9.

          Ouch.

            He’s no Andrea Adelson

Steele’s “little smart pill machine” was not operating at its finest in 2013, for sure, but I gotta say, if anyone had predicted the UGA injury bug, esp. the Massacre at Neyland, I would’ve told ‘em they had inhaled way too much Munson dust. Put any 2 of Gurley, Marshall, Scott-Wesley, Bennett (not to mention Mitchell) back in for the MO and Vandy games, esp. 1 from the RB column and 1 from the WR column, and there’s a very good chance we have a different year. And surely only Wes Craven could have forecast the ST chamber of horrors.

          • DAMN him for not anticipating most of our playmakers would be injured. He should have foreseen that and factored it in, Bulldog Joe.

        • Cojones

Chris Lowe had us 10-11 in SEC on D line. Go figure how the secondary and Lbs moved us up to 6th natl. My point is, if there is an accurate prognosticator around, he’s selling stock into betting in Vegas. Otherwise, these gentlemen are known as “Lick the Greek”s.

Yall may follow that road if you wish; just think I’ll start watchin’ the movements of the wife’s free-range chickens while contemplating the -3 gift in the SC game. Most of’em have the gaps filled in their tailfeathers naturally now so that makes the feathers harder to come out. Newbie this year is the banty rooster. Little shit walks close to me while I’m on my porch swing, rocks his incongruous head back and his tall legs nearly come off the ground while mustering his call loudly at my slited eyes. He is of course an impresser of hens and Cock-of-the-Walk, but so damned ignorant so as not to see the game-experienced hens slowly backing away from the malevolency they know exists on the porch swing. Yeah, if by halftime that SC game isn’t going well, I’ll find his lonely little peckered outcast soul (he’s not going to notice the dark shadow that has flanked his precious little ass as he peckers away at movement in his scratch mark) and too late after the boot meets feathers does he realize the game isn’t to my liking. The hens tried to tell him long ago.

Either that or; as the game is going our way, he hops up on the swing with me and I’ll blow smoke at his beak. It’s probably going to be his best experience in life because the big roosters will continue to see to it that he doesn’t get any free-range pussy after his little oversized drumsticks are chased all over the yard. Aw, hell, think I’ll go out and give the little freak a puff now so as to get him unaware of the upcoming swing game called “SC”. Smoke’em if you got’em.

    • Will (the other one)

I worry about his prognosticating skills a lot more after his call for great overall seasons from Texas and USC last year, as well as repeated calls for the UF passing game to improve.
That said, he did predict improvement in 2005, 2007, and that the 2008 team was a bit overrated…so here’s hoping he’s still mostly got it.

  7. Go Dawgs!

I will never understand why writers completely ignore the defense when making preseason picks. Even with the optimism that seems to come with the new defensive staff, Georgia’s defense was a train wreck last year and was the main thing that kept the ‘Dawgs from contending last year. I haven’t seen any magic wands in Pruitt’s hands. I’m hopeful for a good year, but my goodness. That’s a bit much to expect from a team with no experience in the secondary and no consistency in coaching.

Oh, and we’re not really sure about our quarterback, either.

  8. PTC DAWG

Finishing 5th in the polls at 11-1 and NOT losing the SECCG may be the ticket for getting into the 4 team playoff…..it is about the only scenario I see for a 2nd SEC team.

  9. Bulldog Joe

Looks like Gurley is trolling Jamies on the picture with the crab walk drill.

    • Dog in Fla

Looks like losing Jameis to Jimbo made Nick so verklempt that he had to look away. But it’s a stealy gaze because short men don’t cry

“A picture worth a thousand words?”

a/k/a the corollary to the First Rule of Pictures in Leon County

“Winston’s teammate Chris Casher did not mention in his signed affidavit to an investigator for the defense attorney dated Nov. 13 that he might have recorded part of the sexual acts between Winston and the woman, which he told police about in an interview the next day. According to Newlin’s memo, Casher said he “did record a portion of the incident but has since deleted it and discarded that cellphone.”

A statement released last month from the accuser’s family through its attorney, Dade City-based Patricia Carroll, said police initially refused to interview Casher, Winston’s roommate.”

Folks I just think it is gonna be a very long year, maybe we beat a really awful Tennessee team and Florida and Tech and finish with eight wins if things hold up on offense.

I have no intention of slitting anything that bleeds, I am just looking at what I see as a team with more weaknesses and unknowns than the reverse.

    I hope…yeah Mayor, I do that….hell, I am a Georgia fan, I could not live without hope.

    • Mayor

I actually see things differently. I see an all or nothing season riding on the outcomes of the first 2 games this year. Win both and the Dawgs probably win out until the Auburn game, which I think the Dawgs would then win, too and likely finish the regular season undefeated. Lose both and the Dawgs probably lose to Mizzou and Auburn plus stub their toes at least once more and maybe lose in an uninspired performance in a crappy bowl. Split–well they did that last season and you saw what that led to. The first 2 games–they are key.

We will end up #15 at season end make book on it!
