The Montana Project comes home.

I’ve known about something for a while that I’ve kept under my hat in order not to jinx it:  our man Hoppy, star of stage and screen, is coming for the opener against Clemson to take in his first game between the hedges.

I promised the man at the time that if he ever showed up here, he’d never have to buy a beer in this state and I intend to keep up my part of the bargain.  In that spirit, I’ve invited him to my modest tailgate that day.  He’s accepted.  So what the hey, you’re invited, too.

This will be a completely ramshackle affair, befitting me and the blog.  You’re welcome to come, but bring your own consumables – and some beer for the man and his four-person group, all of whom contributed to the making of the video.

We’ll be set up somewhere in the railroad lot just up the street from the stadium (I think it’s Lot 29).  Hoppy, as you might expect of someone who’s making his first pilgrimage to the Classic City, has several stops to make, so he won’t be spending his entire day with us.  But we’ll get some sort of formal time arranged for anyone who’d like to know when to come by and meet.  In other words, there will be a follow-up post or two about this.  Basically I just wanted to get an early word out.

Hope to see some of you there.

Right on. Thanks Hoppy! And if I end up making it to Athens for the game (still working on tickets) then I’ll swing by. It would be fun to meet not only you, Bluto, but also a lot of the other commenters, especially those with whom I frequently disagree. I’m much more pleasant in real life than I sometimes come across in the comments, fortunately :)

I believe that goes for most of us. I know I’ve winced when looking back at some of the junk I’ve typed via the internet. Meeting someone in person is always a good idea. Well, almost always.

  2. DANG, I’m a no go for the game, but would love to stop by some time this year if I am lucky enough to get some tickets.

Twistification, I live in NC and have season tickets(4). There are times I can’t make it down to Athens. If you need tickets in the future, let me know. I’m all taken for Clemson though. NCDAWG(that girl on the blog occasionally)

Meeting strangers from the interwebs? Count me in!

Already planning a bottle share for the tailgate. Might as well bring a few bottles to share with you guys as well.

    Looking forward to this.

  4. You mean I get to meet the Senator Blutarsky in the flesh? Will there be a picture/fan singing time or is that in the details to come :)

I’ll be there with bells on. Sen, what’s your preference for brown water? I’d like to bring you a snort…

“Hope to see some of you there” Are there some you hope not to see?

Have a great time blogger pals- wish I could make it! Someone warn McGarity and Emmert not to approach Lot 29!

    I just posted in the Envy and Jealousy thread, but figured it may not get ‘eyeballed';

Tech slapped with another two years of probation. Failure to monitor. Apparently it IS my birthday… :D

I wish I could be there if for no other reason than to talk football with my kind of Georgia fans. Alas, my season debut will have to wait until Columbia. Senator, you might have 10,000 people show up. This blog doesn’t exactly languish in interweb obscurity. :-)

Sweet! I’ll be there as that is in the area of one of my usual tailgates at which I stop by

  11. Bob Z.

Josh Murray and a UGA football helmet walk into a bar in Montana. Which one get’s recognized first?

  12. Silver Britches

Looking at a Parking Services map, I think the lot you’re describing is labeled “N08,” but I may be wrong.

And I have a jar of peach moonshine for Hoppy.

Forgot to mention; i’ll have one of Clem’s Sons with me. You’ll know me by my t-shirt; “I’m with Stupid ->”

  14. Debby Balcer

I am crossing my fingers I get to come. I have a grandbaby due Sept 1 st. The parents went to Tech so I figure the baby will come Friday before the game. They live in Chicago so if it does I will miss the game. I am praying for after the game. I would hate to miss this game.

  15. Holy crap! A GTP tailgate! I will certainly do my best to stop by and provide refreshments! Great idea. Will there be name tags for everyone write their GTP handle on? Awesome idea!

  16. Scorpio Jones, III

Dude, should be tres interessant…ne pas nourrir les trolls…or water them either. :)

  17. Hate that I won’t be there… Would love nothing more than to meet the Senator (only Senator I’ve known to actually represent my interests!) and my fellow GTP’ers but I probably won’t make it up to A town until the cold weather blows. Pictures and a win, please!!

  18. Athens Dog

I will try and stop by. I’ll have on something red and will be drunk……….

    Should be easy to spot

I wonder if Cojones will bring brownies? ;-)

    • Cojones

Thanks. I was going to post it last tonight, but I won’t bring brownies. They are suspicious. So I’m bringing surreptious cookies (you know – kids, lawmen, judges and other occupations who would object would be there and I wouldn’t dream of such a faux pas. I’m cool about pot when not having fun on this blog).

Unfortunately, I’ve been told by the doc to limit my trips or stop every 50-60 miles to discourage blood clots. Even though I’m taking anticlotting meds, it’s too early in my regimen for trips of any length.

If someone would give Hoppy, his wife and/or entourage my regards, I would appreciate it. If he’s ever near Big Timber, let me know. My son and one of his good buddies there are Dawg fans and you can’t meet enough of them in that territory.

And thanks to you, Mike, for the daring invitation. There is no doubt in my military mind that everyone will live up to your social expectations. This is a decent bunch that I’d like to meet as well. Yall have a happy tailgate and if you have trouble, I know a prominent barrister who practices in town.

Bounce back soon! They worked on my ankle Wednesday. They included an ultra sound nerve block. I still can’t move my toes. Yikes!

      • MT Dawg

My god mother lives in Big Timber. Golfed there this summer. Get there more frequently than not.

  20. Keese

Good God I’m ready for next weekend!!

  21. Castleberry

Thanks! I do plan to stop by this sounds like fun. I am bringing my nine-year-old to the game with me. Y’all please try and keep this clean.

  22. Ole Dokes

Would love to shake your hand & say thanks for all you do Senator. Recent surgery prevents me from making the trip. We’ll be at the farm w/a raucous crowd of best friends doin’ it South Georgia style.

PS-with 30 bazillion hits, you may want to consider renting out the Coliseum for all the GTP followers who will want to lay eyes on you! Y’all have fun & GO DAWGS!!!

  23. Connor

I think Hoppy is going to be playing second fiddle. The Senator. Live. That’s momentous.

  24. Duglite

I’ll stop by. We tailgate in the middle section of the railroad lot. I’m looking forward to it.

  25. Russ

Man, wish I could be there! Senator, do you plan to go to Arkansas? I usually make the western swing and just made my plans for Little Rock this week. Would love to shake your hand and buy you a beverage.

  26. I’ll be there. Telling the wife it’s the Bachelorette tailgate just to ensure it goes down.

Can we please do nametags? This is the only time ever anyone has said that.

  27. AusDawg85

If a live feed is not shown on the SEC Network, it’s not fair.

  28. I hope you put out a donation jar!

  29. Damn Senator have you thought this through? Both the secret service and your private security team have serious concerns about the mayhem, chaos and tumult that might result from this public appearance.
I hereby volunteer to search and frisk any female tailgaters under 140 lbs,
I’m serious ,what happens when “The Alcoholic Genius” gets hold to some of Cojones “brownies” I’m tellin ya this could get out of hand in a big hurry. Dawgs could be having sex with cats I’m talkin real Armageddon stuff here.. Consider your bad self warned.
