Currently, is there a sadder story in D-1 football than Rice University?
I mean, the Owls hire a guy in Todd Graham who resurrects a program that had been in the dumps for decades and gets them in a bowl game for the first time in 45 years, sign him to a five year contract extension in the wake of that success… and then watch him leave three days later for a head coaching job in the same conference.
On top of that, he takes six of his assistants with him and Saban snags another. All of this within a month of signing day for the ’07 recruiting class.
The only reason I mention this is that Coach Martinez’ name has surfaced in an article on the Rice coaching search.
