… Thursday is a special day for the Alabama athletic department because it marks the end of a five-year NCAA probation for nine major rules violations stemming largely from two recruiting scandals within the football program.

A rising tide lifts all boats.

While we’re on the subject of the escalation of head coaches’ salaries and paying for the privilege of the same, it looks like their assistants aren’t missing out either:

The Austin American-Statesman reported earlier this month that Texas will pay each of its co-defensive coordinators, Duane Akina and Larry Mac Duff, $300,000 this year. Texas offensive coordinator Greg Davis, believed to be among the four highest-paid assistant coaches in the country, will make $351,440 this year, according to the American-Statesman.

Almost a million dollars for three assistants! That’s the football equivalent of George Carlin’s joke that cocaine is God’s way of telling you you have too much money…
