“The Year of the Pig will not be very peaceful.”

It sounds like Frank Broyles may soon be out as AD at Arkansas.

And there may be more dominoes falling:

… Broyles’ retirement could lead to sweeping changes within Arkansas’ athletic department. Northwest Arkansas NBC affiliate KNWA reported Thursday night Arkansas football coach Houston Nutt’s contract could be bought out sometime in the next three weeks.

Coincidently, starting Sunday, it’s the Chinese Year of the Pig. That doesn’t bode well, according to Hong Kong feng shui master Raymond Lo:

Pig years can be turbulent because they are dominated by fire and water, conflicting elements that tend to cause havoc, Lo said.

“Fire sitting on water is a symbol of conflict and skirmish,” he said.

Sounds ominous. Maybe they should let the Springfield parents pick the new head coach…

UPDATE:  It’s official.

Tradition, tradition! Tradition!

This is why ESPN nauseates me:

Continuing a tradition that began last year, the Mississippi State Bulldogs will kick off the 2007 football season on Thursday night with an ESPN televised game against the LSU Tigers on Aug. 30, the Southeastern Conference confirmed.

“Continuing a tradition that began last year”? Who comes up with this crap?

I guess it beats continuing a tradition that began last week… or last night.

And, after all, tradition is very important. Without tradition, college football would be as shaky as a… as a… as a fiddler on the roof!

Somebody, somewhere, deserves to be croomed for that.

“Oy vey, enough with the cowbells already!”
