Earth to Dink: AJ-C claims Richt underpaid

According to this article, the University of Arkansas has agreed to a compensation package for a guy who has signed twenty years’ worth of contracts in the last eighteen months that is approximately $800,000 more per year than the amount currently received by Mark Richt for being the head coach at the University of Georgia.

Let’s take a second to recap, shall we?

  • Number of BCS bowl appearances: Richt, three; Petrino, one.
  • Number of SECCG appearances: Richt, three; Petrino, none. (yeah I know, but so what?)
  • Number of final top 10 appearances: Richt, four; Petrino, two.
  • Record in bowl games: Richt, 4-2; Petrino 2-2.
  • Seasons as head coach: Richt, seven; Petrino, five and thirteen-sixteenths.

So Dink, given all that, if you ever sit down and have your “face to face” meeting with Richt, how do you think he’ll take your proposal to reduce his base salary to $500,000 and control his outside compensation?

Phil Steele’s all-SEC picks

If you want to know which players a guy on a constant caffeine buzz parked in front of ten big screen TVs 23-7 (he’s gotta sleep sometime) thinks are the best in the Southeastern Conference, Phil’s got your answers.

Aside from the unexplained decision to list twelve players on offense and ten on defense for each of his four teams, it’s a list that looks like something you’d expect to see coming from a person who’s watched some SEC ball in depth.  He’s certainly more restrained in his love for LSU talent than anyone else I’ve noticed.

And I really like that Geno Atkins pick at 2nd team…

The joys of Photoshoppery, and other things

This photo of a Georgia cheerleader has been making the rounds lately:

It’s starting to generate some inspired farking.

Now that I’ve caught your eye, here are a few other random tidbits I thought I’d share…

David Cutcliffe, currently the UT offensive coordinator and the bane of Willie Martinez’ existence, reportedly is on the verge of accepting the head coaching job at Duke (see, online ads work!). The Blue Devils chose Cutcliffe ahead of such other stellar options as recently fired UCLA head coach Karl Dorrell because of one key factor, evidently.

…As for Cutcliffe, he has proven he can succeed as a head coach at a program with inferior financial support and facilities, which will certainly be the case at Duke.

That certainly sounds like the beginning of a bee-you-tee-ful relationship, doesn’t it?

Speaking of offensive coordinators, Tommy Tuberville’s final meeting with Al Borges must have been epic.

…Judging from the stilted language in a statement released Tuesday afternoon (“After speaking with Coach Tuberville for the better part of 20 minutes, it became increasingly clear that Auburn needed a new offensive coordinator”), Borges was not at peace with the decision.

No kidding.

And if you need more proof that Wake Forest head coach Jim Grobe is not your average bear, he’s one of the few in his position at a major college who doesn’t have an agent.

No hard feelings, coach.

Noted without comment:

Louisville running back Anthony Allen will transfer after being granted a release from the program. Allen set the school’s single-game rushing record with 275 yards against Middle Tennessee on Sept. 6.

Louisville spokesman Rocco Gasparro said Thursday that Big East rules prohibit Allen from transferring to another school in the league. Gasparro also said Louisville will not release Allen to any school on its schedule in the next three years or to Arkansas. [Emphasis added.]
