More “it’s not in their heads” stuff

Chris Low spends some time at Florida’s media day and hears a certain subject come up more than a few times.

* The Nov. 1 Georgia game came up more than once Friday, and most of the Florida players did their best to bite their tongues.

But not everybody was completely diplomatic about the Bulldogs’ celebration in the end zone last season after scoring their first touchdown.

“I know our program would never do anything like,” sophomore center Maurkice Pouncey said. “But that’s the difference between us and them. If that’s what their program is based on, doing stuff like that, that’s their deal. I know our program would never do anything like that, especially with Coach Meyer here.”

Ain’t that the truth.

By the way, on that “especially with Coach Meyer here” stuff, check out something Bruce Feldman had to say that pretty much sums up the whole debate on how people see Meyer:

Feldman: I got a few dozen e-mails about Meyer’s decision to let Wilson back on the team this week. I gotta admit, I’m pretty surprised. I hope Wilson takes advantage of this latest chance.

If you love Urban Meyer, you think he’s a warm and decent man, not to mention a great coach. If you don’t, you think he’s a hypocrite for this and his talk about taking the top one percent of one percent rings very hollow. I do know this, Meyer has really stuck his neck out for Wilson by letting him come back and represent the program, whether it be as a walk-on or not. That’s still a privilege and Meyer will now be linked to Wilson, for better or worse. In a way I think the best case scenario for Florida on this one is if Wilson gets beat out on the D-line and never proves to have much impact, but goes on to graduate and becomes a guy who can be held up as someone who finally saw the light.

They wouldn’t do anything like our “celebration” but before the a game start they will run to the center of the field as a team and celebrate? LSU and Michigan?

You’re right Will, it was Pouncey. And for a natty light, no less.

Will: Don’t think I’d be bringing up brushes with the law right about now. I think you guys win hands down. Not sure how many arrests we have in 2008, but I’m pretty sure it’s less than 8. (!!)

Living down in FL for the last year I can testify this “thUGA” rep and the celebration are huge. I’m not saying it is right, just the perception outside of GA.

Every bar brawl, DUI or public drunkeness fuels the fire. The Lemon, Sturdivant and Anderson issues more so.

Make no mistake, south of the St Mary’s river, Meyer is a god (in his own mind and others) and we are the bad guys. College football did not exist before 1991. I conservatively estimate 3 in 10 cars have gator vanity plates.

The best way to shut them up is to beat arrogance out of them come Nov 1.

I really was dissapointed earlier this summer when more wasn’t made of CMRs speech/comments about all the positve off the field things we are doing.

One gator goes on a mission trip (albeit it was superman) and you would have thought he was a presidential candidate. 10 of 12 Dawgs go on a mission trip and nothing.

We haven’t even paid much attention to the summer school grades which came in at better than a 3.0 average.

Sorry for venting and getting off point, Senator. Too many mullets and jean shorts down here. They are getting to me and I am homesick for the Classic City.

Sadly, UF is a media machine and never get called out on their hypocrisy. By the time the game comes around, they’re going to have convinced the media, and thus most of the nation, they are the ambassadors of college football and UGA is the devil. ESPN totally goes along for the ride. I agree with Coastal though, the best thing to do is use their unrivaled arrogance against them and beat them in November.

  7. Ace,

I put our handful of underage drinking arrests up against your fraudulent use of a dead girl’s credit card for the better part of a year. Nah, I think you guys win hands down. It’s a whole rocks and glass houses deal.
