A sample of AP voting guidelines:
Avoid regional bias, for or against. Your local team does not deserve any special handling when it comes to your ballot.
…
Please be advised: “Homerism” will be challenged and could lead to dismissal from the poll board.
Now, meet AP voter Taylor Zarzour,
… host of The Big Tailgate show on WPTF-AM in Raleigh, N.C. Zarzour formerly hosted a show on WNSP-FM in Mobile.
In Zarzour’s bio on his show’s Web site, he is described as an “avid Alabama fan” and lists his greatest moment as a sports fan as Alabama’s 34-13 win over Miami in the Sugar Bowl to win the 1992 national championship.
Roll Tide! Why should this matter? Well,
… Auburn was picked to win the SEC West by the media at SEC Media Days last month.
In the preseason polls, Auburn was ranked No. 10 in the AP poll, No. 11 in the coaches poll, No. 7 by Sports Illustrated.
Auburn was left off of the AP ballot of Taylor Zarzour…
At least the guy’s not a coach.

UPDATE: Mr. Zarzour has inspired some amusing thoughts over at Our Honor Defend worth a read. (h/t Eleven Warriors)
Looks like he took that part of his bio down. Nice.

Taylor also did not vote for the Vols in his ballot. In his bio, if it’s still up, he referred to teams that are playing UT and AU as his favorite teams. I’m all for UT and AU losing -every game- but I’m not an AP voter.
It goes back to having a pre-season poll. He might truly be objective – I concur with his reasons for not voting for UT or AU, but the general consensus is that they are good enough to warrant the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. They are at least better than Alabama, who, Taylor brings in at #23 – and I’m an unabashed Alabama fan.
Hopefully, this is just a Spurrieresque pre-season ballot but this is the type of action that makes polls (and Taylor) look bad. I guess we’ll have to wait for his week two ballot to pass final judgment but either way his credibility has a voter has taken a hit..

This is like the ditzy office bimbo who wins the Basketball pool by picking a team based on which mascot she likes.
Its crazy delusional Alabama fans like these that make you look forward to Georgia stomping Bama in Athens on 9/27.

The AJ-C writers never voted for UGA, and still now that they don’t have any AP Poll votes, the AJ-C writers, do all they can do to question every move by the team that ended last season Number 2 in the Final AP Poll and now is Number 1 in 23 different polls for this season so far, stating such indefensible making news positions for example that “Dannell Ellerbe is not a Star” despite being the leading tackler on the Number 14 Total Defense in the nation against the Strength of Schedule Number 7 in the nation.
The voters in the Big XII also do all they can do for their teams, as do Pac-10 voters.
It is clear to all that the AJ-C thinks of UGA as the team from 58 miles away and that we all should be Georgia Tech fans, all 6 million of us living here.
6 straight wins over Alabama, despite losing Will Muschamp to Texas as their DC and Losing their Senior Quarterback (That may actually be a blessing.) should have more than just this 1 Bama fan thinking their Most Powerful Coach in Football period will ruin Tubs’ concept that LSU’s Losses including Defense and now Quarterback too, just hands the SEC West to Auburn.
All I am sure about Auburn is that they have a weak weak weak weak schedule, like they also do. Let’s see Louisiana Monroe starts Auburn’s year out (Wasn’t that the team that beat Bama last year?) S Mississippi next. Then Mississippi State. 2 games follow. Then Vanderbilt from the East. Then Arkansas who hasn’t been any good either. Then West Virginia certainly is without Steve Slayton and Rich Rodriquez. Then doormat Ole Miss. Then Tennessee-Martin, whatever that is. Then us and Bama.
Auburn will lose 4 games again before their bowl game they have been winning.
Alabama will lose to Climpson Farmers, Georgia, the vols, LSU and Auburn before their bowl game they win as often as they have been Losing. That’s at least 1 more loss than Auburn for Bama. Their Number 1 Recruiting Class for St. Nick was based upon signing the most players of any college team coming off Probation, not because of its quality.
Clearly, Auburn will have a better season than Bama; but it could well boil down to if Saban can beat Tubs as to who has the worse season.
I just remain amazed that Tommy Tuberville has never had any quarterback ever at Auburn.
There is nothing that can be done about how the voters vote. It’s just too bad that we don’t have folks in Georgia who put their votes in for us to balance it out.

He did exactly what he wanted – he is getting attention. Most media types have now figured they can get more money or prestige by simply being bombastic instead of being proficient at their jobs. Pathetic.
