He who lives by the missed field goal…

Regression to the mean comes back to bite Phil Fulmer & Co. in the ass last night.

UPDATE: Westerdawg shares my remorse. With links.

UPDATE #2: Barnhart has some words of comfort for Vol Nation:

… A 2-4 start will make things pretty restless on old Rocky Top, especially with Fulmer’s new contract in place. But I believe, and I’ve written this before, that Fulmer got the new deal just in case something like this happened. It takes the issue of his job security off the table.

That’s good to know.

I hate it for the SEC. It looks bad when one of our top programs loses to a middle of the Pac(10) school in rebuilding mode. However since it was UT I’m not really peeved. I do get tremendous joy out of Mark May making himself look like an idiot. He was pimping UT because of their o-line and said this game would not be close.

Already on message boards PAC 10 fans are declaring Arizona State the winner against UGA. I hope the sundevils remain this overconfident.

  3. As I said over at Paul’s place…how in the world did they miss the downfield linemen on UCLA’s last drive in regulation?

    Rules to Live By
    1. Hope the SEC wins every out-of-conference game.
    2. Hope Florida and Tennessee lose every game.

For me, rule 2 beats rule 1. Go Bruins!

I know every conference’s fans like to bitch that their refs are awful, but I’ve thought for a long time that the Pac-10 officials are the worst of the bunch.

Add the safety UT got hosed on to that list as well. And, it may be just my eyes, but I still don’t think that was a TD for UCLA – I did not see the ball break the line.

Isn’t the PAC-10 the only conference that doesn’t allow visiting conferences to bring their own officials?

  8. Someone mentioned that in the group I was in last night. Unreal. I wouldn’t ever do a home-and-home with them, ever. Especially after last night and the Oregon/Oklahoma mess.

No clue how you miss a center roaming down the field. UCLA might as well have had 20 guys at the LOS.

That’ll be a good question to ask in a couple of weeks, won’t it?

Yeah, karma kicked UT square in the nuts last night. In 2004, they were charmed in a lot of close games, and karma caught up in 2005. I think it might happen to them again in 2008.

How about UT’s punt formation on that blocked punt? They never showed many replays, but there were about 6 guys rushing and only 3 blocking- with a back-up punter about 14 yards deep.

    Poor coaching.

I hate to see the SEC lose an OOC game.

    Especially against the Pac-10.

But, I love to see some Volun-tears.
