Lane Kiffin gets his man after all.
Ed Orgeron is headed to Tennessee.
The former Ole Miss head coach, who spent the 2008 season as the New Orleans Saints defensive line coach, confirmed via text message this afternoon that he has accepted an offer to be the Volunteers recruiting coordinator, defensive line coach and will have the title of associate head coach.
“I’m so excited,” Orgeron said via phone. “I get to coach with Monte [Kiffin] and I’m getting to recruit again. It’s pedal to the metal and I can’t wait to get up there.”
Six hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year is all it took. That’s close to $2 million per year for two assistant coaches in Knoxville. Wow. It had better be worth it.

I was happy to hear that he was going to LSU and felt like it was a good fit for him and not Uturd. Now with him at Uturd he will be a force as a recruiter and although he was a train wreck as a HC, he is a pretty good DL coach.

I know the Viles think they are just “going all out” and proving they are committed to get things back on track, but this looks and smells like fear and desperation to me.
No knock on Ed, he may be a great position coach, but that is overpaying by a LOT. Can’t say I understand why he would pass on LSU since he already lives there, the program is much further along, and the recruiting ground is more familiar to him. It doesn’t matter how good a recruiter he is, TN is still recruits at a disadvantage to UGA, Bama, LSU, and UF. Plus, the new HC is iffy at best. No recruiter can overcome a sinking ship when you are also geographically challenged. Orgeron will only be successful if UT turns their problems around quickly. They haven’t had great classes the last two years and this one is still in question.
