The new introduction to Urban Meyer’s book

My friends, the head coach of the Florida Gators is pissed off.  And not in a cold, refer-to-yourself-in-the third-person way, either.  Just royally PO’ed at Junior.

Sentinel: Not sure if you’ve publicly commented about the Lane Kiffin controversy – does that maybe seem a little silly or humorous now in hindsight:
Meyer: “I didn’t find it humorous.”

Sentinel: Not then, I’m sure, but perhaps now?
Meyer: “It’s not humorous. I can think of a few other words that I’m not going to say, but certainly not humorous.”

Sentinel: Have you talked to Kiffin, or has he reached out and apologized:
(Meyer shakes head no).

I’m not sure why Jeremy Fowler finds Meyer “a little evasive” on the subject.  The man sounded like he got his point across just fine, thank you.

As someone who doesn’t have a dog in this fight, this sure is fun.  When are SEC Media Days, again?

How very, very strange – for the first time in many years, I actually want the Gators to beat the Vols this year. I think they will do so, handily.

  2. RedCrake

    I’d prefer a Vol win followed by a Kiffin/Meyer murder-suicide.

St. Tim could officiate the funerals followed by ceremonial circumcisions of all infants at the game. Those Tebow tears would be extra tasty.

UT will take one of it’s worst beatings in years and it will keep happening for a few years to come.

Maybe Meyer will burn his timeouts again. It’s going to be a big deal.

I will continue to pull for The Meteor every time UT and UF play, and in Dawgly fashion I shall raise my offspring to refer to the 3rd Saturday in September as “Meteor Day”.

  6. Is there anyone in sports that takes themselves more seriously than Urbs? Jeez….

Urban stares, points at the tri guy and says, “Sabin and Mike Singletary.”

  9. I hate both schools with a passion. If there was a way for both teams to lose, it would be awesome.

“Is there anyone in sports that takes themselves more seriously than Urbs?”

Absolutely not, and nor is there anyone who is more of a humorless douchebag. Meyer is the Sean Penn of college athletics, except Meyer actually earned his success.

I favor the murder -suicide route but I am unsure as to which one I would want to murder the other. I think that Urban is definately the more intimidating of the two but Kiffin has all those high paid assistants that need something to do besides belly dance and scream.
September will be an interesting month for Tennessee football and my bet is that by October Kiffin will be holding news conferences talking about what great shape the program is in despite reports say.

Somewhere around noon in beautiful Athens, Georgia, the Dean of the SEC Coaches decides to pen a little note to the newest member of the SEC conference coaching community and it goes a little something like this:

    Dear Lane,

Take it from me, it’s not a really good idea to aggravate Coach Meyer, Sir. His tolerance level is somewhat low.

I have found Coach Meyer, Sir, to be more of an Old Testament kind of guy than a normal person, although some say he is part bird dog.

Not only that, Coach Meyer, Sir, sometimes lapses into speaking in the third person. At our last post-game greeting in Jacksonville, he told me something that sounded like, “Revenge is mine! Thus sayeth the Urban.”

My guess is that you do not want vengence reigning down on you to the tune of 49 to 3 in the fourth quarter. I did a heck of a lot less than you when you were calling him a cheater when he wasn’t cheating and stealing one of his verbals from Pahokee. I fear that you run the risk of getting a double dose for those little stunts, which may end up being the worst loss in the history of the Tennessee football program.

Kindest personal regards and best wishes for what, I’m sure for you, will be an excellent adventure this season,

    Your Friend,
