Thursday morning buffet

Merely hours away now…

  • Gene Chizik may turn out to be a fine coach, but I still want some of whatever Andy Staples is smoking.
  • You’re the AD at a small school being offered a guarantee equal to 9% of your total department budget for one football road game.  That’s a no-brainer in my book, even if the chances of winning are small.  And if your team wins one of those?  “We really enjoyed spending that money…”
  • If you think it’s impressive that Georgia plans on using Logan Gray to field some punts, Virginia may have its starting quarterback also utilized as its primary punt returner.
  • Clifton Geathers suspended for the Georgia game?  Nah.
  • Any Georgia blog invoking the spirit of Lewis Grizzard is going to get a shout out at GTP.
  • I admire his honesty, but it sure will make the upset in Jax this year that much sweeter if it happens.
  • Oklahoma State, then and now.
  • Somehow, this article wasn’t much of a surprise.  Although Lou Holtz proclaiming “You’re held accountable for your actions” is a bit cheeky, considering the NCAA violations left behind in his wake at various coaching stops that never seemed to catch up with him.
  • And the Internet rumor about Zac Robinson being injured turned out to be just that, but another OSU linebacker may be “dinged” from practice.

“Now don’t get me wrong. Although I’ve seen plenty of disappointment in the roughly 25% of the Gator’s total history I have shared, I’ve also seen plenty of triumph. I am not complaining. I’ve seen 8 “official” SEC titles, and 3 “national titles” (or 4, if you like).”

Nope guy, you have seen ALL the Gator history.

      Well played, sir.

      • Well played indeed.

However if I may reply, isn’t Dawg fans who regularly point out that college football history DIDN’T begin with Steve Spurrier?

No, even though it was 75 or so years of rather dismal history, it was history nonetheless. History, after all has value still beyond our own experience. Like say, a national title 29 years ago this season. It was before even I was a college fan, but it happened nevertheless.

        Didn’t it?

If you get some of Staples’ stash, remember this: Friendship make prosperity more shining and lessens adversity by dividing and sharing it.

Had Samuel Johnson written the Wall Street Journal article containing the Lou quote on accountability and being a top-notch Republican, Samuel may have written this about Lou:

“He is not only dull himself but the cause of dullness in others.”

The Georgia game feels like a bowl game for at least one Cowboy? I like the sound of that, based on their most recent bowl performance.

  5. Dog in Fla, I have red and enjoyed many of your brief comments(er…) found in this demense, but that may be the most profound, profoundly thought provolking and profoundly hilarious thing I have seen from you. Well done sir.
