Kiffin watch: and in a shocking development…

Junior gets dinged with public reprimand #2 from the SEC.

And, yes, if you’re wondering, there is a form of a “three strikes” conference rule about that.

UPDATE: Year2 captures the screenshot accompanying the announcement at the SEC website.  Hey, as long as they spelled Junior’s name right, it’s all part of the plan.

“Kiffin said he milked the clock with 35 seconds to set up a field goal left because he didn’t want to let officials decide the game.”

Do you think Tennessee players and fans will let him get away with that lame excuse?

    The Magical Flag Game
(a/k/a Kick The Ball Higher For a Change Game)

“You run another play and you throw an interception or they throw another flag on us — I wasn’t going to let the refs lose the game for us there and some magical flag appear,” Lane said Sunday after he gave it away.

Afterwards, Lane joined the other assistants in performing a re-enactment of the helmet yanking officiating in the beautiful metropolis on the Black Warrior River by doing a masta remix of Puff the Magic Flaggin’ Dragon and sending it to Slive who immediately dictated that his receptionist to do a third public reprimand against Lane the penalties of which will require that Lane use a better production crew when he gets his fourth reprimand which will surely be soon…

In the meantime, Richt is relieved that Lane, Petrino and Mullins have joined him in the barrel so that he is no longer the only target, just the primary target, for magic flags in this thus far wondrous season of precision laser-like officiating in The SEC that is only sure to get better. After all that’s what league championship game ratings are all about.

And why wouldn’t we be smitten? We haven’t been blown out by anyone, and we did a pretty good job of going toe to toe with the two best teams in the conference and maybe the country. Not to mention beating your dawgs within an inch of their life.

Sucks to lose a game like that one – wish we could block a little better.

Maybe the SEC should spend a little less time reprimanding its coaches and a little more time reprimanding it officials for the horrific job they are doing. Its arguable that poor officiating has cost teams 3 games this year (Ga/LSU, Fl/Ark, and Fl/Miss St), yet the players and coaches have no recourse. Its tough enough to win in this conference as it is. Don’t make it harder by putting out refs who shouldn’t be calling a Pop Warner game.

+1. Much as I hate to say this (’cause I despise UT particularly now with Jr. as head coach) but you can add the UT/Bama game to that list of games cost by officiating. Notice a pattern here?

In simmering over why The SEC portrays him as a staring finger pointing Molotov cocktail thrower with a bodyguard henchman in the background and Mullins only as a thoughtful headphone wearer, Lane further endears himself to Commissar Slive, having the unintentional consequence of endearing himself to that small, select unhinged cadre of those Georgia, Arkansas and Mississippi State fans who are also conspiracy theorists, Lane adds a delectable Cherry smack on top of the Cool Whip to partner with his unforgettable ‘I’m Going To Turn Him In Right Now’ classic:

“I’m sure we’ll get one of those letters that mean nothing, that Bobby (Petrino) got last week but Florida and Alabama live on.”

In the meantime, Slive asked his intern to research the meaning of the nothingness theory and get back to him well before Tennessee’s next important game.

Amazingly the UT fans are buying this garbage logic and not taking Junior to task for running the clock out nd costing them a chance to win. Most of the focus has been on the refs even though it would have been Alabama’s ball had the penalty been called. Great no call in almost everyone’s opinion, but that is being used to divert attention away from the way TN ran the clock out and did not take a better shot at winning.

Crompton was handling the game just fine, Bama’s defense was on their heels, and the TN kicker had told Baby Kiffin he had a leg injury before the game. Still the decision to not even try to pick up additional yardage is being ignored and TN fans are talking about how well coached both teams were. What?

Even with Walsh or Coutu as my kicker, I would have been damned angry if CMR had elected to try a 44 yard field goal rather than try to make it a 33 yarder, or a 25 yarder, or even scored a TD. Sheep, I say.

Maybe we should stop making fun of this guy until CMR and Georgia actually beats him. It is shameful that CMR let Kiffen pull down his pants and give him the business.

I think that Kiffen needs to grow up a ton but he has a big ole check beside item # 10 – “Whip Georgia’s ass then gloat about it” from the master plan. Say what you want about him but his team has played hard all year and has at least been in the ball games at the end which is more than I can say for the guys from Athens.

Please, the guy is 3-4 with a loss to a bad UCLA team at home, and a butt whipping at home to Auburn. In both the Florida and Bama game he layed down one offense, and absolutely quit. I have never seena coach do that at UGA, and hope I never do.

So a great game against UGA gives him a pass and puts him on a perch? Does the “any given Saturday” phrase not ring a bell?

His record is 3-4 having played the #1 and #2 team in the country on the road. Richt’s is 4-3 at this point….so not much better there.

Look, I think the guy is a prick and probably not that great of coach but just like Zook did a couple of times he made Richt look bad. Spin it as “Any given Saturday” if you like but Richt’s pants were pulled down by Junior. Just tried of seeing mediocre coaches put a clinic on Richt. Plus I don’t get any satisfaction from watching someone else handle my business…..ie Bama & UF beating Kiffin since Georgia could not.

      • “Any given Saturday” – yep. Thankfully it was the Saturday you guys were in town. I don’t care if you respect our coach or not – you’re not going to regardless. But bottom line is that he has a one-game winning streak against UGA. And no amount of gnashing your teeth and pointing out things he did in every other game is going to change that fact.

I bet you were one of those sad-sacks I saw leaving Neyland midway through the 4th quarter. Keep living vicariously through Florida and Auburn – blue and orange look really good on you.

Actually, it isn’t just the coach I lack respect for, it is also the TN fans allowing such a classless clown to ignore traditions, and make totally juvenile coaching mistakes but given a pass just because he cruises your sideline. I would feel the exact same way if CMR acted like Junior has. Embarrassing, and a lot UT fans have sold their integrity to support him.

You may think the “any given Saturday” is funny, but if you don’t see games EVERY week that baffle all football logic, you aren’t paying attention. I always “throw out” any one Saturday when evaluating teams because there are dozens of factors that distort games during the year. You have to look at much more than a three hour period to understand what a team is made of.

TN fans have always had a propensity of focusing on individual battles and ignoring how the war was going…sort of a “head in the sand” method of dealing with bad news. It remains to be seen whether UGA is at the beginning of a similar slide that TN ignored several years agoo with CPF. For right now, there simply isn’t enough info available. We haven’t had 2 losing seasons with CMR, and it hasn’t been 10+ years without a title like the stretch UT is currently in. Sure, I wish October 10 had a different result, but it was one game, not the total war. As of now the battlefield updates aren’t looking good, but 8-4 has been the worst record for a Richt team at UGA, hardly compelling enough for panic. See you next year in Athens, where once again, the winner will only have bragging rights for that day regardless of which team wins.
