Is it just me or is the Mangino thing way overblown?

I don’t know. Watch this and tell me what to think, ’cause it seems right on the line to me (as a football outsider).

It’s football not ballet, that this is offensive is just more evidence of the wussification of America.

I’m not particularly surprised or bothered by it. But I am glad ours doesn’t act that way on camera/on the sidelines, and I kinda would hope that he doesn’t feel the need to jerk around facemasks off of it.

That Mangino is outta control, I tell ya! He even put his hands on a player! Can you believe it? And he was inside another player’s “bubble” on another occasion. The man must be stopped!

With 95+ kids on a team, EVERY team will have a few players that complain about the coach. The stuff I read here doesn’t sound too different from other places.

He was trying to impress upon the player not to “dive” into the endzone and incur a celebration penalty. I think his response to what the player did was appropriate. If a coach does not do something to express disapproval he gives tacit approval to that sort of conduct.

Can disapproval not be expressed without grabbing a player’s facemask?

Would this kind of behavior be acceptable in any other arena of society? I mean, even though we’ve been wussified and all.

Why is football different? I am just a caveman. I do not understand your modern ways.

Please too…I’m not suggesting Mangino be fired over this video or anything else. But I don’t get why troglodytic behavior is accepted in a forum that is supposed to be teaching students about life.

I actually think what Mangino did in the video above is fine. I would be willing to bet that kid won’t make that mistake again. And as we all know as UGA fans–15 yards on a kickoff is HUGE. See, LSU, 2009. Sometimes kids need more than a quiet lecture.

Obviously there are lines that shouldn’t be crossed, ie, personal attacks, physical abuse. He did neither in that video.

I don’t know anything about the allegations against him. I’m just talking about the video.

Mangino is right about on thing, though: when you’re people have a lot more tolerance for the asinine child-like rantings of the coach. That sh*t gets old real fast when you don’t win, however.

                  As it should.

          Brandon,

Would you rather Mark Richt behave like that?

Actually, let me be more specific, since I’ve been known to say that I’d like to see Richt should a little more emotion on the sidelines.

Would you rather Mark Richt be the type of coach that would belittle a college student for drawing an excessive celebration penalty (as opposed to, say, treating it like the teaching moment that it is)? Do you think Richt should throw personal stuff about a player’s life (like, for instance, a father’s alcoholism) in that player’s face while, again, belittling him in front of the entire team?

I mean, I realize that you’re all big and bad, and hate the so-called “wussification of America” (let me guess: you own multiple guns and drive an F-350), but let’s not lose sight of the fact that these are college students … PLAYING A F*CKING GAME.

Which reminds me that maybe the important thing we should be really be thinking about this Holiday Season and the upcoming time off from work is whether it’s better to use a F-350 Super Duty or a Prius as a getaway vehicle.

And it’s been so successful. I mean, Kansas is so HARD. I wouldn’t want to face that team!

Good comeback, Brandon. Almost as hard as Mangino. Great to know at least you haven’t been wussified.

Look guys, it just appears to me that all Mangino is doing is using some choice words on the way to making a good point, I think he is 100% right in calling that player out for committing a selfish personal act that cost his team 15 yards. Could he have used some more family friendly language? Sure, but is this all it takes to Bobby Knight a coach anymore? Harsh Language? Whatever happened to sticks and stones? There are always some malcontents on any team who are going to gripe about a coach, especially during a bad season when they think they can do the most damage. All I am saying is the behavior in this video does not seem like that big of a deal to me, by the way nice unfrozen caveman lawyer reference earlier rbubp.

Overblown? Who knows. Overbloated? Maybe. Overweight? Clearly. But if whatever team he coaches decides to let him go, we’ ll always have this to remember him by…

I’ll believe it when I see it, but Randall Cobb possibly out with a shoulder? That would be nice.

He needs to rest it for the TN game. They haven’t beaten TN in over 20 years (damn 2007!) and have them at home. Much better chance for them to beat TN in Commonwealth than UGA in Sanford at night. Save yourself Randall, UT is the team that didn’t think you deserved a scholly.

Screw you and your breathalyzer, Minnesota. Someone hide that link before fucking Mike Adams sees it.

The breathalyzer is only for students who have previously been kicked out of a game for being too drunk. If you’re a student drunk enough to get kicked out of a student section full of drunks, you should have to clear some hurdles to get back in. I cringed when I read the Senator’s tease to the link, too, but the plan itself has some merit for students. We’re in mid-November and there are only 50 students “enrolled.”

“Hut, Hut! Jindal Chomped Up $10K From Accused Fraudster Before Big UF-LSU Game

Just hours before the University of Florida Gators administered a 51-21 trouncing of LSU last year, Gov. Bobby Jindal was rubbing elbows with well-heeled Florida supporters at a fundraiser-cum-tailgate party held in a private home north of Gainesville.

One of the co-chairs of the October 2008 reception was none other than Scott Rothstein, then a prominent Fort Lauderdale attorney, now accused of a fraud worth $1 billion.”

And this one is just starting to get good…

I actually went to the new Minnesota stadium last weekend. Small and relatively serene, but pretty and not a bad seat in the house.
