Just for kicks, here’s the breakdown of the time each game took this year for Georgia, via cfbstats.com:
- 09/05/09 @ 22 Oklahoma St. 3:23
- 09/12/09 South Carolina 3:54
- 09/19/09 @ Arkansas 3:45
- 09/26/09 Arizona St. 3:26
- 10/03/09 15 LSU 3:28
- 10/10/09 @ Tennessee 3:13
- 10/17/09 @ Vanderbilt 3:27
- 10/31/09 Florida 3:20
- 11/07/09 Tennessee Tech 2:36
- 11/14/09 Auburn 3:27
- 11/21/09 Kentucky 3:38
- 11/28/09 @ 12 Georgia Tech 3:10
The Georgia Tech game, to no one’s surprise, was the second fastest game of the season. But check out that Tennessee Tech number.
Nice work. South Carolina and Arkansas were the longest because they were passing games right down to the wire?

Yep. That first half of the South Carolina game may have been the longest one I’ve ever sat through.

Wish we had more games like that TTU game. 1:00 kickoff, 2 1/2 hours of UGA domination with no TV. Very pleasurable afternoon in Sanford.

i think the lack of TV timeouts is what makes the TT game so short.

We need those TV timeouts guys. Mr. Red Hat has a family to feed and a very specific skill set. In these rough economic times there can’t be much demand for someone who’s primary abilities involve raising his arm then spinning it in a circle after 2 minutes.

I hate the way TV timeouts can often kill momentum in the games, but a season full of games like TN Tech would drive me to the NFL. I wait so anxiously for CFB to begin that a 3 1/2 hour game is very acceptable to me. I just wish we had several more to “endure” this year. Keep instant reply, allow TV timeouts, play strong OOC games, anything…..just keep them coming! Hard to believe another season has practically ended for 9+ months.

The refs and the timekeeper let the clock run on out-of-bounds plays in the second half of the Tennessee Tech game.
It must have been agreed upon by both benches after the score reached 31-0, because no one complained about it.

That’s a rule that was implemented in the last couple of years to speed up games. The clock only stops on out of bounds plays if there is less than 2:00 remaining in a half.

Even though this has been a down season I am extremely sad to see it coming to an end. It is hard to believe how quickly a season goes by even when it is filled with angst and frustration. That is what makes college football and the SEC in particular so special. Even a rough football season is better than no football season. Kind of like the bumper sticker that states, ” A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.”
