How does a site calling itself FootballCoachScoop.com, that publishes every rumor about coaching hires known to man, completely miss on the Vic Koenning story?
I have to admit that I woundn’t mind if Georgia hired Koenning at this point, if only to hear what would come out of the Zooker’s mouth as an explanation.

UPDATE: Koenning takes the Illinois job, says that there was some “dialogue” with Georgia. That doesn’t sound like a job offer in my book. It sounds more like Richt is testing the waters and gauging the interest of potential candidates.
This is sports news; it doen’t feed the naked, heal the hungry, or clothe the sick, and David Hale is not a pot stirrer or rumor mongerer, but . . . there are a lot of “sources” in that bit and nobody is willing to let their name appear.
If it turns out to be spot on, I’m hiring Hale as my stockbroker, if its wrong nobody will remember it.

See, the thing is, from having been one, the only “news” a sportswriter can really trust is the score of the game. After that it is 90% rumor and innuendo and 10% sweat equity.
According to another coach scoop site, Joe Schad of ESPN is reporting Koennig is going to Illinois after multiple mind changes.

This just in: Illinois has a news conference scheduled, we don’t.

I know nothing about this except what I have read here. But if Koenning has both offers in hand before any announcement is made and chooses Illinois, he isn’t smart enough to be the DC I want. Sorry, but that is a no-brainer unless you have some emotional/family tie to Illinois. If VK was favorably inlcined toward the UGA job as is stated, he would have taken it unless there is a HUGE discrepancy in the offer, and I cannot believe there is. I am not sure VK is/was the right guy anyway, but I definitely would not have wanted him if this story is true and it reflects his level of thinking. “Yep, think I will hitch my wagon to that Zook feller, move to this garden spot area of the country, and bask in the glory of being associated with the lower part of the Big 11.”

In a stunning left hook right cross display administered to himself, separated by a day or so, Zooklander hires not one but two Head Coaches in Waiting so Paul and Vic can compete with each other to replace him…

This morning I heard those goons on 680 The Fan reporting this BS as if it were a fact and trashing CMR and UGA for offering the job to the guy without knowing in advance that he would really take it. Their premise was that this somehow reflected negatively on the program (making it appear that UGA football was inferior to ILL football) and blaming CMR for giving the school a black eye. Instead of boycotting college football (as some have suggested above) until there is a playoff why don’t we just boycott those assholes?
