Our long national nightmare may soon be over.

David Hale reports that Mark Richt has a vision (you only have a plan in Knoxville).

Coaches get another opportunity to contact recruits again in January, and Richt said he plans on making a round of home visits then – ideally with the new defensive coaches in tow.

“I’ve strategically tried to save most of my home contacts until after the bowl season,” Richt said. “And hopefully we’re going to get a chance to get out with our new coaches after that point.”

Or is that blank url a comment on Richt’s vision?

    I hope not.

All I want for Christmas is a bad ass DC!

  4. You’ve got to give Richt credit, he and Damon have done an amazing job keeping a lid on the people offered. If it weren’t for CJD, we’d have no idea about any of the offers, most likely.

I’m starting to think we’re more and more likely to get the no-name guy who will confound the fan base, but confirm Richt’s statement that he didn’t do this because of fan pressure. It’ll be a testament to his commitment to doing things his way.

I hope so, I have liked it Richt’s way so far. My preference would be for a “no name” that brings great enthusiasm to the position and looks at UGA as a place to build his name, not capitalize on ours to springboard into a HC position within the first two years. Naturally I don’t have a clue who that would be, but am confident he is out there and recognizes UGA may be the perfect place to make his mark. We get good to excellent talent to work with and provide a high-profile opportunity to a hungry, undiscovered young coach. Bring on a 30-something fireball, let’s roll the dice.

I just don’t want to be a safe landing place for a solid performer going no where, or a stepping stone for someone who doesn’t want to be here longer than 1-3 years. Afraid though we are getting a bigger name based on the timetable CMR has stated, unless it is a position coach from the pros.

      • I don’t know, I think waiting until after the major bowls means he’s more likely to take a up and coming guy off a team that’s playing a December bowl (didn’t HJS suggest the D-coordinator on MTSU that played last night?). I’m just worried that if he does take the up-and-comer that that guy won’t get any leeway from the fans for next season. With the big name, whoever comes would get at least a year of “alright, he’s fixing CWM’s mistakes” time, but the little guy will be under immense pressure to fix things right off the bat, and that might not happen with the positional losses we’re sure to take.

It all depends, many of the most vocal critics have said we have great talent it was either attitude or poor teaching that disappointed them. If that is true, a “quick fix” will be expected by them. If someone comes in and changes our defense from a 4-3 to a 3-4, a case could be made that we will need time to get the right personnel on board. I expect a lot of UGA fans to complain either way, just the nature of the group the past five years. The only ones that are silent are those who were begging for Tenuta, and they have probably just gotten new names so they can continue to blast someone.

Big name, or unknown, they will get more than one year from Richt regardless of the outcry, and they should. Fortunately the offense looks strong enough next year to cover up a defense that loses a lot of experienced talent. We will be OK in 2010, and should compete for the East with SC, imo. I don’t see us dominating the conference, but we should be able to handle the softer schedule we play next year and give the new coach time to prove himself. I kind of like 35-27 type games having grown up on 13-9 games under Dooley. I have no reason to think CMR will not make a good decision on this hire.

So many are banking on Kirby after the national title game.. I’m not sure he’s the best man. I’m not convinced about how much of Bama’s offense is really his.

Why is everyone so bonkers over Kirby Smart. I enjoyed watching him play for us but that defense is not his. Can we concentrate on someone who is proven. Smart is just the trendy guy right now because they are in the national spot light.

Whether it is his or not doesn’t really matter. The defense he has presumably called for the last couple of years has been pretty good. If he brought that system to Athens, I don’t know many people that would be upset.

For those who like football scoop and Jim Donnan scuttlebutt the selection du jour is none other than this guy who probably got interested when he got a call from Bud Foster who said Hey Todd Georgia is looking but why would anyone leave Jerry Jones for Mark Richt? Sanity? http://lb.dallascowboys.com/team_coach_bios.cfm?newName=Todd_Grantham

Maybe, I wouldn’t be surprised at all with a hire like that. Don’t know his background other than what I read there, but he is the type of accomplished, under-the-radar coach, I am expecting CMR to bring in. Having a professional pedigree would play well with recruits since there are several SEC programs touting their contacts with the NFL. Dallas doesn’t look like they will be in the playoffs, or around long if they do make it, so that time frame works with an early January availability. Lot of people to choose from for a job like this one. I am glad we are not rushing into it.

Dawg fans have often considered Richt as sort of the 2nd coming of Vince Dooley. If so, you guys should be able to look forward to playing for an MNC title around, say, 2018. (for those slow on the uptake, it took Vince 17 seasons to win his title). Richt’s already had nine cracks already. Don’t think it’ll take our guy that long for a shot.

Unless O’Leary is in charge of Johnson’s resume, and he just became a head coach — like UF just started its football program in 1990 — it seems he has already had eight “cracks”, since he spent six years at Navy with no MNC and two years at the Trade School with no MNC. And here we Dawgs thought math was your strong suit.

Richt does have something in common with Dooley. They both own GTU.

      (((((( 30-24 ))))))

Upon further review: Georgia-Georgia Tech. I’m still in savoring mode, thanks.

At GT, Paul Johnson is currently 20-6 (76.9%) with one ACC title and a 1-1 record against UGA. After two seasons at UGA, Mark Richt was 21-5 (80.8%) with one SEC title and a 2-0 record against GT.

      30-24.

      8-1.

Not all your fans are functionally illiterate when it comes to CFB, but the overwhelming majority are. Must make you comfortable to be surrounded by all the urine and white clad fools you fit in with.

Pitiful if you think you have ANY legitimacy on a UGA board based on a fluke win once a decade and finally having a winning record in the “powerful” ACC. Man, you guys really got it going on.

Someone told me that Mike Smith relieved VanGorder of his play calling duties last week. They also said BVG was unhappy with the situation. I am not trying to start any speculation, I am just trying to find out if what I heard was true. Has anyone else heard anything about this??

I want Manny Diaz after watching 30 for 30 on the U. If one secondary coach from south florida didn’t work, why not try one whose father was just the mayor of Miami. Kids love the scarface bit.
