Florida WR Deonte Thompson has a minor quibble with his old quarterback. You know, the Heisman Trophy winner. He may have been acclaimed, but Deonte Thompson knows quarterbacks, and Tim Tebow, he’s no… well, let Deonte explain:
“You never know with Tim,” Thompson said. “You can bolt, you think he’s running but he’ll come up and pass it to you. You just have to be ready at all times. With Brantley, everything’s with rhythm, time. You know what I mean, a real quarterback.”
Yeah, that’s it. Tebow was a fake quarterback.
Now that sounds a little arrogant to me, coming from a guy whose career to date can be succinctly described as underachieving, but one of his coaches begs to differ.
“That’s what’s great about him. He’s humbled. He’s let his guard down. Coach, coach me.”
Only a Tebow held him back.

If Tebow had spent more time fixing his throwing motion instead of holding Thompson back, who knows….

I’d throw him some pity, but he’d likely drop it.
I knew as soon as I read that quote yesterday it would be here today. I know what Deonte was trying to say, that Tebow is a “traditional” quarterback, but yeah, it did not come out well at all.

Or maybe Urban will keep telling Deonte to go long and when Deonte gets open, have Brantley still not throw it to him just like Tim did last season.

Joe Cox threw a better deep ball than Stafford, too. And we were so looking forward to that. And we got it. We saw bombs hit in stride time and time again in ’09. But we also saw a lot of throwing to the other team and poor decisions in crunch time. Be careful what you wish for. I’ve said before and I’ll say it again. Lars Tate was good, but he wasn’t Herschel. Every once in a while you get a Tee Martin to follow a Peyton Manning, but not much. Tebow’s the 2nd greatest player in UF history behind Wuerffel. Hard to imagine an upgrade…but that’s why we play the games and why March till August is so much fun.

I’m not shocked that a Gator finally said what I wondered about for 4 years. How did UF keep all those egos in check for that long? How do great players like Harvin just disappear behind the sun like presents of Tebow and not get bent out of shape. If this was the only thing CUM was able to do it will always be a one of the best coaching jobs in the history of sports.
