Tech Nation is having a tough time letting go of the postponement of the Alabama-Georgia Tech series, particularly in light of Mal Moore’s comment that the decision came at the request of Tech’s AD.
“Their athletic director (Dan Radakovich) contacted me and said they wanted to postpone the series and we were willing to work with them,” Moore said. “We do want to resume the series at some point in the future, but we did not work out any dates at this time.”
So the spin has been fast, furious and creative.
From The Hive, we learn that it’s ESPN’s fault.
That’s topped by this post, though, in which we learn that the games were postponed because of – get ready – pending SEC expansion. In fact, we’re assured there that “… Tech & the SEC have already been in contact to gauge preliminary interest between the two parties.”
The things you can learn on the Intertubes.
I’m surprised nobody’s blamed Obama yet.
It’s all Obama’s fault.
And if it isn’t Obama’s fault then it is W’s fault.
Done.

Georgia’s position on Tech in the SEC should be something along these lines

So Tech routinely gets their ass beat by an SEC team that they claim is 5th or 6th best in the conference, but its conference expansion talk that made them want to pull out of the Bama series….
Interesting.

Not that this is worth anything, but I’ve heard the Tech to an expanded SEC from someone at GTAA.
I don’t know if he was repeating what he heard or if he was just throwing it out there.
One would have to think that if MU goes to the Big10 and CU goes to the Pac10, SEC expansion happens in Texas. That’s just my opinion, though.

Given the NATS’s budget woes in their athletic dept., I’m sure GTAA officials would love for an expanding SEC to swoop them up. But there’s not much in it for the SEC.
Now, grabbing Texas, TAMU, OU, and maybe OkieSt, moving ‘Bama and Auburn to the SEC-east and making a superconference that way? That would benefit the SEC financially, plus put the top recruiting territory outside of CA into the SEC.

Damn. Tech losing another game is always a plus. Saban’s D would totally dominate Tech’s high school offense

“Dallas has that brand new, state-of-the-art stadium. Bama-GT would have been perfect for ESPN to play up all summer, reviving one of the most bitter rivalries in college football at a neutral site on the national stage, two highly ranked, most likely, teams, relatively evenly matched in the historical series both on the rise again after once dominating the SEC between them.”
There are so many things wrong with this comment, I don’t eve know where to start. Good lord, the delusion on those boards is disturbing.
