Boise State gets giggity.

The Broncos are dipping their toes into SEC waters in 2011, per the official Ole Miss tweet.

Ole Miss has scheduled Boise State for its 2011 football season opener at home. It will be the first meeting between the two schools.

I guess this is the Nuttster’s way of returning the favor to his old employer.

They are going to get Zabransky’d (being exposed in front of a national audience as a fraudulant program whose reputation is beating up on patsies after attempting to schedule a difficult season opener against a quality team in the best conference in the country in an attempt to bring positive exposure to your program). Throw that one in your lexicon.

    • Their opener this season is tougher, isn’t it?

Relative to what? Are you saying you don’t think they’ll get Zabransky’d against VT in 2010 or you do think they will get Zabransky’d against Ole Miss in 2011?

        • Puff, you’ve been picked up by a national audience. Congrats on your first Lexicon contribution.

Sweet. Thanks for the heads up. Honestly didn’t mean to sound harsh. I just remember the upset meme go down in flames as JZ threw all those interceptions. At the end of the day, I think Boise is a nice program, but they aren’t worthy (yet) of a spot on the biggest stage, because…

I enjoyed the linked Ole Miss blogger’s article there. One gripe I have with the Ole Miss article though: “…and hell yes I think there’s more than a little to be said about multiple consecutive 10-win seasons, regardless of the conference.”

F that. The Ole Miss blogger was obviously trying to be polite, which is what we do in the South. But if you took any average to decent SEC team and put them in the WAC, they’ll win 10 every year. Winning 10 in the WAC every year is NOT a big accomplishment, at least if you want to be perceived as a major power in college football. And I think any rational Boise State fan will be the first to admit that.

If only we could do something about that…

Per ESPN, Boise State/UGA never happened.

Good for both teams for scheduling a decent OOC game. Also D.N. ESPN is not the only one who claims it never happens, on any CFB you talk to Boise State fans and that game never happened.

It is funny reading Boise State’s SBN page write-up about the game and in the comments several posters discuss how lucky we were to beat them

    Lucky? Huh?

Boise State is 0-4 versus SEC teams:
    09/16/2000: Arkansas 38, BSU 31
    09/01/2001: South Carolina 32, BSU 13
    09/07/2002: Arkansas 41, BSU 14
    09/03/2005: UGA 48, BSU 13

I hope Ole Miss can maintain.

Thank you all for those kind words. Life long BSU fan here. You are correct that the game against Georgia Bulldogs was humiliating. The game did happen! It is interesting some of the logic that is going on here. “But if you took any average to decent SEC team and put them in the WAC, they’ll win 10 every year”-that is correct the WAC is weak. That is also the same reason why BSU dominates the WAC every year. In your own reference you are saying that the Broncos are an average SEC type team because they win 10 games in the WAC every year. That is a great compliment. It is all about how you view the situation. Most people just don’t look at the other side of the coin is all.

Actually, I AM looking at the other side. I think Boise could and would be an average SEC team if given the chance. The problem is that average SEC teams don’t play in the BCS title game, nor should Boise. The fact that they have an awesome record in a crappy conference is the reason people think they are getting screwed out of the BCSNC game. But if you put them in the SEC and they went 10-3 people would unjustifiably start saying their coach is on the hotseat (UGA 2008), not consider them for the big game. This would not even be a discussion if they played in a legitimate conference. That’s all I’m saying.

If I may, we appreciate you coming here with a civil mindset. This is a very good college football blog who commenters are normally open minded and fair. Like I said before, I like watching your team because they are one of the more fundamentally sound teams out there. They know what they can do and they execute. I honestly think Tenn got a good one in your former DC. Looking forward to the VT game this year.

I hope that everyone forgets that by 2005 BSU had been competing at the FBS level for 10 whole years. I’ll help you with the math, that means that in 2000 we were in our 5th year removed from a 1-AA(FCS) conference. If any of the “mighty” SEC teams had lost to BSU during that timeframe it would have been more than a little embarassing.

In the last 4 years BSU is 49-4, has won 2 BCS Bowl games, been ranked top 15 3 times with 2 of those being top 5 finishes. But hey, BSU is over-rated, they have a weak schedule, and everyone just hopes they don’t get blown out by Ole Miss to bad. Please, please, please, keep telling yourself that. We at Boise know how that works out for teams we play. If you really think you don’t need to worry… Keep Livin’ the Dream.

    • O&B, I get what you’re saying, but that wasn’t the narrative before our two schools faced off in 2005.

      This was.

FWIW, I think Petersen’s a great coach and I enjoy following the program’s progress since that game. But nobody was playing the humble act back then.
