Kiffin watch: we can make stuff up in LA as easily as in K’ville.

You know, if I were Urban Meyer, I sure would be getting tired of Junior’s act.

UPDATE: Ditto Nick Saban.

Auburn quick hit

Stability is nice, I guess, although it comes at the cost of retaining Ted Roof.

When it comes down to it, Auburn’s success in 2010 is in the hands of Cam Newton and Roof.  Not to say it can’t work out, but that pair’s not exactly Joe Montana and George Seifert.  Or McElroy and Saban, for that matter.

Musical palate cleanser

(WARNING:  Non-football post follows.  I simply wanted to post about something other than hot seats, DUIs and dumbass cops who arrest people for failing to provide a middle name.  Oh, yeah, and an hour of LeBron James on ESPN.)

You know what makes a great pop song?  Well, a lot of things do, but one sure sign is that you can’t get it out of your head.  This one popped up on my iPod a couple of days ago and it’s gone ear worm on me.  So I thought I’d share.

Here’s Todd Rundgren with a live performance of a song about being a back-up boyfriend, “Something To Fall Back On”.  It should have been a huge hit, but never was.  Sure is catchy, though.

Alert the media.

Or at least Andrea Adelson.

4. Teryl Austin, defensive coordinator, Florida: Coaches are copycats by nature, and if something is successful, all the more reason to try. The 50 base defense (a 3-4 alignment) is growing in popularity, and the Gators could use the system as much as 50 percent of the time under Austin. [Emphasis added.] Florida is chasing Alabama, and no one runs the 50 like the Tide.

So let’s see:  new defensive coordinator running a new defensive scheme with a significant turnover of personnel, along with a new quarterback.  Sound familiar?

Hey, I don’t expect her to drop the Gators as far as the Dawgs – they won a lot more games last year.  But still, that sure sounds like a recipe for a shocking ranking from Ms. 64, if you ask me.  How ’bout we split the difference and rank Florida at #32?

Better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in.

Taking David Ching’s column about the new AD hire to its ultimate conclusion, I’d like to put my candidate’s name out for consideration.

A shark of an agent like Jimmy Sexton, who represents many coaching heavyweights, must lick his chops at the thought of negotiating with some of these old-timers, who are clearly in over their heads when it comes to maximizing their financial position.

Jimmy Sexton, Georgia Athletic Director.  Tell me that wouldn’t strike fear into the hearts and minds of Georgia’s competitors.  And vendors.

Not to mention that you wouldn’t have to worry about finding a decent coaching candidate ever again.

Sure, you’d have to pay him a bundle.  But he might like the challenge.
