Entrenched in Knoxville

As controversy swirls over the program in the wake of the Bar Knoxville Brawl – player arrests, suspensions and at least one dismissal being the start and a potential NCAA major or secondary violation being perhaps the finish – you can’t help but be impressed with the way that athletic director Mike Hamilton has taken charge of the situation and become the face of the program.

What’s that, you say?

… Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley served as the university’s lone voice Friday when he provided a statement that did not address looking into Bar Knoxville’s “VIP status,” but sources told the Times Free Press that Morton’s claims already are being investigated.

Athletic director Mike Hamilton did not return messages from the Times Free Press…

Sorry, I must have had him confused with an AD doing his job.

Seriously, after everything that’s gone on in the past eighteen months, how is this man still gainfully employed by the University of Tennessee?  Has he got pictures of someone in a compromising situation?

If I were a UT fan, I’d be seriously thinking about buying the man a couple of drinks and planting orange panties in his car.

You would have thought after a year of Kiffin they’d be really good at dealing with secondary violations.

Shhhh…..Don’t tip off the hillbillies. We WANT them to keep Hamilton and have him continue to screw up their athletic department.

Again, until the Dawgs start winning games on the field against the Vols, this kind of talk has to stop.

Richt has a winning record against UT doesn’t he? And I certainly like the outlook of our team versus theirs.

I’m sure they(Hamilton) are just putting the pieces together trying to sort the whole thing out. I bet Adams was glad that he was on vacation during Damongate and had time to put his finger in the air and see which way the wind was blowing. On another note. My pal- the Vol fan, sent plenty of texts my way during DE’s unfortunate crash and burn… will not respond to my texts. Is ATT having problems in Knoxville? My wife and his are still able to text. Karma.

Don’t get giddy just yet. Dontavious Jackson was arrested last night on a DUI charge.

Yep (and Tavarres King was in the car & got cited for underage possession, per Red And Black Twitter feed & police blotter). 😦

Damned police! Where do they get off protecting citizens and enforcing the laws on the book? Probably wearing jackboots and totally unaware of them just being boys, or their tough home life, or cultural indifference to obeying our laws. Hopefully Eric Holder will come down and sue the local police for this obvious abuse of their authority.

Obviously not the legality of the two, but after reading the anti-law enforcement comments yesterday and the “reach” of those I don’t see it as a stretch at all. We sunk to charges of Nazism and racism very quickly there. And already there is a “we have all been there” comment on this thread. Personally, if the charges against DJ are true, I would hope he is gonzo. As for TK, while I would support a roll back to the 18 year old drinking age, he should get 3-5 games just for pathetic judgement. Too many of our athletes are not taking disciplinary rules currently in place very seriously. I would rather play, and count on, those who do.

Could it be that Jim Delany is on to something about The SEC…

“Start with the assumption that Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany and SEC commissioner Mike Slive don’t particularly like each other.

It goes back to this treatise posted on the Big Ten’s website almost 3½ years ago. Pay attention to Delany’s line, “… it seems premature for us to lower our admission standards.”

I still have this one nagging thought about conference expansion.

You know…after watching Damon Evans burn his promising career at UGa to the ground it would seem like any athlete with a reasonable grasp of cause and effect would swear off the booze for a little while.

Studies have shown that four out of five athletes as well as anyone between the ages of 18 and 22, would respond to the ‘reasonable grasp of cause and effect’ concept by grasping at something else and MDWM.

Hamilton and Mike Garrett must be exchanging tips on how to keep the AD job. Never have two AD deserved to be fired more.

Well there goes TK’s first few games. DJ was just going to sit on the bench anyhow.

What if Hamilton becomes a candidate to replace Damon? MA is just the kind of president that might make that kind of hire…

Hamilton is smart. Always keep one or more people between you and the problem. That’s just good management.

Now that Jackson and King have tried to bring that dark cloud back to Athens, is there ever a point where you just give up and start pulling for a win in the Fulmer Cup?

Q: “how is this man still gainfully employed by the University of Tennessee?”

A: Lane’s Two Degrees of Separation – The Story of the Two Mikes, Hamilton and Garrett:

“THE YES MEN FIX THE WORLD is a screwball true story about two gonzo [Athletic Directors] political activists who, posing as top executives of giant corporations [University of Tennessee and University of Southern California NFL Feeder Programs], lie [delete the word ‘lie’ and replace with ‘talk’] their way into big [SEC and Pac-10] business [press] conferences and pull off the world’s most outrageous pranks.”

No excuse but some of this is going to happen. It is not recruiting thugs but it is about making students & athletes aware of the consequences of their actions if & when they are caught. I expect UGA & CMR to handle all infractions swiftly & fairly. Hopefully others will learn from the results.

  13. Senator, I’m surprised you haven’t stepped up to comment on the brilliance coming from Mark Bradley that last couple of days in wake of the UT and UGA arrests. I guess that would be swinging at the low-hanging fruit to point out how stupid that guy can be.

So when can we expect more than 2 of the 10 folks involved in beating up a cop to get arrested? TK is drunk in the passeneger seat of a car (GASP!) and gets arrested and fans here are calling for 3-5 game suspension for him… yet in KnoxVegas litereally 80% of the participants in a massive beatdown have suffered no legal ramifications.

Guess they gave their middle name correctly.

  15. Good question, Spence. I am anxious to see the final results;suspensions, dismissals, etc. for what happened in Knoxville & in Athens.
