- It’s kind of scary, but Matt Hinton’s predictive summary of Georgia’s season is exactly what I’ve thought for the past month or so: “Mark Richt‘s record against Florida will fall to 2-8. But Georgia will ultimately return to the 10-win club and finish the season as one of the conference’s hottest teams, using an impressive Jan. 1 win as a springboard to becoming a chic pick to knock off the loaded Gators in 2011.”

- Notice he didn’t say “wouldn’t”: “… SEC Commissioner Mike Slive said Wednesday there still could be interest by other leagues to expand, but money shouldn’t be the driving force.”

- I’m reading all these Jeremiah Masoli-to-Ole Miss rumors all of a sudden, but without a waiver, how would the Nuttster get around the SEC rule prohibiting schools from taking players with less than two years of eligibility left?

me, too. i don’t see why we should have a better chance to beat uf in 2011 than in 2010 given the personnel losses we’re likely to incur by then and the relative uncertainty of uf’s coaching staff. i think we have a better chance to win this year, new qb and new d notwithstanding.

Two reasons, mainly: (1) I’m firmly in the “I’ll believe it when I see it” camp when it comes to a win in Jax; (2) the 2011 schedule is Georgia’s softest in I don’t know how long.

Some would argue that’s been happening for the last 20 years. The Florida program that Dooley built his record against was disorganized, in debt, and couldn’t get out of it’s on way.
We need to be honest that NO ONE is going on an 18-7 run against Florida for a.very, very, very long time (if ever).

People like to forget that FL had some damn good teams in the 70’s and 80’s (1985) but would somehow *find a way to lose* in Jacksonville. Rarely did they field a team like the 1979 version.
Do you realize how many close wins we had down there?
Sure they had some problems attributed to coaching but athletes were never a problem nor was support, money, facilities, etc.
Neither Jeremy Foley nor Urban Meyer will be around forever, and for those who think a great program cannot see dark days – I’d like to turn your attention to Nebraska post Tom Osborne.

I realize full well. I lived through most of them. Part of what made them great was last minute heroics, and being able to tease them with the possibility that they might win and then reach in their lizard chests and pull their still-beating hearts out and stomp them into the turf. Appleby to Washington and Run, Lindsay, Run are famous, but there were others that were just a little less dramatic. And there was the occasional beat down (55-0, maybe?) Mostly, IF we lost, it usually didn’t matter much to either team.

In regards to Masoli to Ole Miss, from what I’ve read Masoli has already graduated from Oregon and could play anywhere immediately as a grad student since he hasn’t exhausted his eligibility.

That’s the NCAA rule, Josh.
The SEC passed a rule after Ryan Smith transferred from Utah to Florida that prohibits accepting players who have less that two years eligibility remaining.

And my understanding is Massoli has 2 years, but only one to play (as in he’d have a redshirt year). So I’d like to hear more on this.

Senator…. It’s my understanding that Masoli graduated in three years. So due to the NCAA rule that you have five years to play four, he technically has two years of eligibility left….. I haven’t verified this, but I read the above on an OM board….

Masoli went to San Francisco CC (a JC) for a year before transferring to and playing at Oregon. He’s used up 3 years.

GTU may be on to something. I think that it would help them out immensely with urban recruiting if everyone associated with the team were given similar nicknames:

A question to you stats guys out there. How many SEC head coaches have won 100 games in their first 10 yrs.? I think CMR has a good shot at that number this season.

Steve Spurrier is the only one of whom I am aware. He also may be the only one nationwide although Bob Stoops of Oklahoma would be a possibility.

Slive sends internal ‘For Nick’s Eyes Only’ memo to Nick’s publicists and stage managers asking that they not let him go into the intermediate Messiah Pose any longer because it looks too much like a Hold-Up Pose, which, of course, is not good for business

I would be very careful with those “chic” picks in 2011. For going on 5 seasons, if Mark Richt and the Dawgs can underperform, then they do so! ……………………..So be careful,be real careful.
