Something else for Michael Adams to rename

Georgia finishes first in The Princeton Review’s party school rankings.

The Athens campus has been on the list 10 times since the ranking was created in 1992, but this is the first time the university has taken the top spot.

I guess those player incidents with alcohol we’ve been noticing didn’t occur completely in a vacuum.

  1. We Drink This State

We’re dominating the state on the field and off. Deal with it, nerds.

The Damon Evans thing completely sealed the deal.

Bah. UGA has been a traditional power in the party school rankings since Michael Adams was plotting to rig his high school student council race.

Today’s evolved smart kids, much like Czar Mike, like to think they invented everything good at UGA, but they weren’t the first smart kids to matriculate there, and they weren’t the first ones to drink a beer there, either.

We’ve been # 1 in playboy’s list before and one year in the late 80’s-early 90’s they didn’t rank us but had an * and said they would rank us but that they didn’t rank professionals with amateurs.

That was in a letter to the editor from a UGA student to Playboy, the editor’s response was the line cited. It was back in the 60’s. I think Playboy was embarrassed that they had left the Party School of the South off the list.

read the link in the ABH article above. It isnt an urban legend, though it isnt quite what it seemed, apparently.

The Badgers have a checkered past at this sort of stuff:

I personally saw the article, with the asterisk mention of UGA not being ranked because of the “professional” thing, when the Playboy edition in question came out in 1968. These folks who are now saying “urban legend” weren’t even around when it happened. I wish I still had that mag but my wife, as a condition of matrimony, wanted me to throw out my entire Playboy collection when we got married. I admit to being a wuss and doing so.

Not at all. I got rid of phone numbers and promised to visit some of my buds only when my bride was present. It happens.

Yeah, but by the third or fourth week of the semester, the pollsters will start saying how our guys aren’t “partying impressively enough.” Soon, the support for UGA as a party school will start to wane, and probably by about the middle of October, everyone will be saying how overrated UGA is. Shortly after that, the ranking will drop to two, then to three — without any explanation whatsoever.

I don’t know when it comes to drinking and partying we are definately capable of generating “style points” and have never been known to lack a “killer instinct”.

Undoubtedly Kirk Herbstreit, Jesse Palmer, Lou Holtz and the other ESPN nattering nabobs will actively campaign for UGA to NOT be #1.

I’m so sick of the polls! Only when we have a true playoff ending with a mdbc (mythical das boot championship) will we truly be able to settle it on the field, er, the bar!
