    It is easy now to forget that a scant number of years ago Washington State University had one of the best football programs in the west. A regular contender for the PAC-10 Championship they played in the Rose Bowl in 1998 and 2003. That all changed when Bama stole their coach and then fired him without allowing him to coach even one game. I will not go into where the equities should fall about that. However, it is clear that the real losers from that episode are the faculty, students, players and fans of Washington State University. I doubt that there were very many WSU fans pulling for Bama in the BCSNC game last year and I suspect not many will be wishing the Tide success in the upcoming season, either.
