Marc Weiszer has a post up about true frosh safety Alec Ogletree (who’s looking good, by the way). He’s spending a lot of time on special teams, about which he had this to say:
“Basically I just run to the ball,” he said of his role on kickoff coverage.
Sadly, that’s an improvement over what we saw at times last year.
Doesn’t sound like much of a challenge.

It’s the sort of simple statement that can only be made to sound profound by years of horrific decision-making and poor coaching.

Last year they ran to the ball, they just didn’t get there.

Maybe it would be more accurate to say last year they ran “towards” the ball.

If you mean by that “in the same general direction that the ball was kicked”, okay.

Hard to get there when the ball lands behind the water station.

What? No bunching up of personnel right before the kickoff? (see that fateful LSU kickoff last year). Sure we can’t kick 40 yards down field aiming for a 1’x1′ area of turf? Where’s the challenge now?

That was some bad alignment things and I was embarassed by the replays.
That makes me more confidant of our new season because a sane coordinator wouldn’t allow that I hope.
