Mike Hamilton, America’s Greatest Athletic Director, has decided to Radacovich North Carolina from Tennessee’s 2011 and 2012 schedules.
… With an already demanding schedule in 2011, Tennessee had requested that the North Carolina series be pushed back until later this decade, according to Hamilton. But the Tar Heels weren’t interested in moving the series, leading to the current talks centered around Tennessee paying a penalty to get out of the series and nixing it all together.
Most likely he’ll get some Sun Belt school to step in, with the hope that the Vols can eke out enough wins to qualify for a minor bowl game against a Conference USA opponent. It’ll be like old times for Derek Dooley.

UPDATE: About that replacement – I was close.
If Hamilton will hang on, both programs will be on probation by the 1st game.

I think Hamilton knows that on top of everything else UT is going down for Lane’s 14 months and he is just trying to start to stop the bleeding ahead of time.

You’d think North Carolina would be glad to jettison Tennessee considering that they already have to play the jacketsz and other rigorious ACC opponents.

Wow. This is what you’ve become, Tennessee. You’re ducking ACC basketball schools. You’re a bunch of cowards.
How in the hell does Mike Hamilton still have a job? How is it possible?

This is crazy. When was the last time a BCS school backed out of a contract with another BCS school? Was it Auburn/FSU back in the mid-90s?
Also, shouldn’t that be a “home and home” series instead of a “home and away” series?

Cincinnati backed out of a series with us a few years ago.

We better win a few in a row on the Vols now.

Sad, one of the few positives about TN football was their leadership in the SEC by having a quality OOC game every year. I realize it was driven by the need for exposure to aid in recruiting outside areas but they usually led the SEC in discretionary scheduling.

And they kept losing those quality OOC games whether played at home or on the road. Their longtime coach got fired, they had multiple losing seasons and they are under investigation for recruiting violations. The Vols presently are in danger of dropping to the bottom half of the SEC East. All this from the team that has the all-time second highest winning percentage in the SEC. Playing OOC games against quality opponents, particularly away games, is very dangerous. You better win them or the consequences can be disastrous.

It appears that BUFFALO will be an EIGHTH home game for The Vols in 2011. 8 home games?
4 road games?
And here I am mad over not having a 7TH game at home with the gators every other year…wow.
8 Home games???

I believe Auburn’s had 8 home games last year and in 2007. Just ridiculous. We give the Gators a lot of crap for playing 7 home games, but 8 is just borderline pathetic.

FLA, AUB, ARK and LSU all have 8 home games in 2010. UGA is the only SEC school to have just 6 home games. The rest have 7 home games. DE–gone but not forgotten

I’m convinced that if Mark Richt squatted and dropped a deuce on your lawn, you’d figure out a way to blame Damon Evans for it.

No. I only blame him for his own screw-ups. Why are you wanting to make him out to be so great when he clearly wasn’t. And as for the 8 home game thing, forget FLA, all the rest of the SEC teams have at least 7 and UGA is still the only SEC team with only 6 home games. Yeah, great job DE.

I’m ashamed for Tennessee. They make the conference look bad with this move. What a bunch of pansies.

Someone please tell me how this guy keeps his job? Fire Phat Phil and hire, Kiffin? A young punk with no SEC connections and a losing record? Then, with no disrespect to Dooley, he does it again! Why doesnt he hire a winner, like one of their Daddys. Oh yeah, he did hire Kiffin’s Daddy, he just got their jobs mixed up. Dyslexic maybe?
