The Athens Banner-Herald has its football preview posted today. One of its features is a series of Q&As with several players. Every one interviewed was asked what game or games was he most looking forward to playing and why. Most gave safe, coach-speak type answers.

What game are you most looking forward to and why?
“I always look at Florida. It’s strong. Playing for Georgia, it just endorses bad feelings for them and Georgia Tech, too. It’s really those two teams. The other teams I know players on. I might not be best friends with them, but I know them. But the other two, I’m like a different person when I’m on the field with them. It’s like they’re the enemy and they hurt me.”
Then, there’s the succinct word from Blair Walsh.
What game are you most looking forward to and why?
Florida. Always.

That’s mighty brave preseason talk but once Oct 30th comes around what you will be saying is “next Saturday can’t get here soon enough”. Hopefully Idaho State will provide a respite from the back-to-back defeats at the hands of Kentucky and Florida.

Brave words? There was no mention of UGA beating UF. It reads more like he’s enjoying the animosity of the rival game itself. Don’t they teach reading comprehension at UF, I thought it was a good school?
Oh wait that’s right, you fall into the 90% of the Florida bandwagon fanbase that has nothing to do with the university. I’m sure you and your whole family were rooting for the Gators back in the 70s and 80s when they were the Vanderbilt of the SEC right? Thought so.

Permit me the opportunity to step out of character for a moment. All this Gator attitude of “superiority” is artificial horsesh!t. Rivalries run in streaks. The Gators have been on a run for a while in the GA/FLA game. The series as a whole is still +10 for UGA showing just how superior to FLA UGA has been over the entire series. During the Dooley era the Dawgs enjoyed a run similar to what the Gators have had during the last 20 years. Most of the losses to FLA during the current streak came during the Goff (0-7) and Donnan (1-4) eras. Ancient history. All that it would take to turn the direction of the series around would be for the Dawgs to win 2 in a row. I think we have the personnel (coaches and players) to do just that right now. Auburn beat Bama 6 times in a row. Bama then beat Auburn twice and everybody in the State of Alabama (and in the world it seems) has forgotten all about Auburn’s 6 wins. Lets kick some Gator ass one year at a time for awhile and see exactly what happens. The crying out of Gainesville will be deafening.

Never, in the history of the SEC, has there been a team/program/fanbase more full of poor losers and tacky winners as the Florida Gators.

Allow me to correct a few things Major.
The series might indeed run in streaks. But there is no indication that the domination of this streak will end anytime soon. The Dooley era domination ended when Dooley stopped coaching. Georgia hoped the Florida domination might end when Spurrier left. But alas for Bulldog fans, that was not to be.
As for most of the Florida wins coming in the Goff and Donnan era, well, Richt is only 2-7 against Florida.
Goff was not 0-7, he was 1-6. Richt has now lost more games to Florida than Goff. In fact, with 7 losses to Florida, Richt his now tied with Dooley for the number of games lost to Florida. However, it took Dooley 25 years to lose 7 games to Florida. It has only taken Richt nine years to lose 7 games to Florida.
In the last 5 years, Meyer has won as many games against Georgia (4) as the last three coaches at Georgia have won against Florida, a span of 21 years.
The series is now 39-46-2, Georgia’s favor. That is a 7 win spread, not a 10 win spread.
In the last 6 calendar decades, Georgia has only won the series in 2 of them.
Florida won the 50s
Florida won the 60s
Georgia won the 70s
Georgia won the 80s
Florida won the 90s
Florida won the 00s.
Vince coached for 25 years and his record against Florida was 17-7-1. That is a 9.5 win spread. Spurrier wiped out that advantage in only 12 years by posting a 11-1 record. That is a 10 game spread. Since Spurrier left, Florida is 6-2 against Georgia.
Three consecutive Florida coaches have a winning record against Georgia.
Three consecutive Georgia coaches have a losing record against Florida.
Counting backward from last year, the series does not even up until 1935.

Actually, you make a great argument for the timing of a changing tide. It’s virtually statistically impossible for 2 programs of similar strength, size, and power to have one lose as often as UGa has to Fl.
Therefore, I like the chances of a reversion sooner than later.
But it’s so darn typical of a Gator to assume the winning will never end.

Myke, you are preaching to the choir. All those statistics you quoted are the reasons why I have been advocating that UGA quit giving FLA homefield advantage every year but FLA fans like you won’t let that happen because you know that FLA cannot compete with UGA on a level playing field–you have to have your thumb on the scale. Too chickensh!t to play square.
