Next, they’ll be taking credit for Danny Weurffel’s Heisman.

Is there a fan base that lives more vicariously through another school’s accomplishments than South Carolina’s?  I mean, no knock on what I expect to be another tough game in Columbia this Saturday, but this is silly:

The Spurrier Factor. Steve Spurrier has been a burr in the sides of Bulldog players and fans for two decades. During the 1990s, Spurrier and the Gators tallied a ridiculous 11-1 record against Georgia – who suffered under two underwhelming head coaches.  After a brief trip to the NFL in 2001, Spurrier returned  to the SEC in 2005 to coach the Gamecocks. In 2007, South Carolina upset Georgia in Sanford Stadium winning 16-12 against a highly-rated Bulldog team. Think the Dawgs can win in Columbia?

Mark Richt has never lost in Columbia.

If I were Jeremy Foley, I’d be exploring the possibility of charging royalties.

Just as UF never played football before 1990 the Lamecocks have never let the facts stand in the way of a good lie. These people make the delusional seem sane.

“Rooster revenge. The Gamecocks are 9-1 in their last 10 games at home suffering their only loss at the hands of Georgia in 2008.”

Guess they forgot all about the beatdown they suffered to Florida last year. Then again, since they take credit for all of Spurrier’s Florida accomplishments, maybe they just considered this an intra-squad scrimmage.

What do you expect from a place that puts their all time career leader in punting yards, career leader in kick off returns, most tackles in a night game in September, etc on the walls of their stadium? However I will say that I was at the game in 2007 and walked out of Sanford Stadium super pissed and disappointed because they won. Hopefully we’ll hear something about A.J. and be able to pull out a win up there.

They won’t need to after Garcia and Lattimore win the rare split Heisman this December.

Somehow I don’t think a rb with a 3.9 ypc is going to win a Heisman.

Oh, but he got no help from his OLine in that game. If the blocking was there he’d be the 2nd coming of 1988 Barry Sanders, just ask the Gamecock faithful!

For all the talk about how we struggle against them, we still beat them the vast majority of the time. I expect something similiar to that this coming weekend. It will be a struggle to win, but it will be a win.

Florida played us 12 times in the 90’s?

    Interesting.

If South Carolina gets credit for Steve Spurrier’s wins against Georgia decades ago, then Georgia gets credit for Mark Richt’s 9 wins over Spurrier’s gators while at FSU.

“The crowd of more than 80,000, which rocked with deafening noise against Southern Miss, will bring equal or greater intensity to the stadium on September 11th.”

Somehow I doubt this will be the case for a noon game in a asphalt-surrounded stadium hotter that the surface of the sun. Hope they wear black.

Yeah, the ‘Cocks will be in dark colors and UGA will be wearing white jerseys. I hope the ‘Cocks do wear their black jerseys.

Extended forecast shows high of 94 in Columbia on Saturday. So, no breaks this week in terms of the temps like we got in Athens last weekend.

In the original quote, at least they did qualify the statement about Spurrier’s record vs UGA by indicating that Georgia “suffered under two underwhelming head coaches”.

Both of whom had seasons which would be amongst the best in the history of South Carolina football.

Actually RC, Donnan would have been the winningest coach in South Carolina history percentage-wise and Goff won more games during his tenure as UGA HC than any HC in University of South Carolina football history except one (Rex Enright, the HC with SC’s most wins, 64).

Yes, and yet both of those underwhelming Coaches at UGA, including one Spurrier mercilessly mocked, had better records at UGA than Spurrier does now at SCU. Karma ’tis a bitch.

“Spurrier has been a burr in Georgia’s side for two decades”. How many has he won against us this decade? I count 1 at scu. It’s only about 1 or 2 at fl. It would be more accurate to say CMR has been the boot in Spurrier’s butt this decade.

“Shaw and Garcia give South Carolina a double-threat compared to Georgia who starts a redshirt freshman and has a true freshman in reserve.”

Their true freshman is a double threat compared to ours…

    C’mon man.

SC will be tough, but “double-threat” – really?

Is bragging about a 4 star recruit smart in this instance? Are any of our rbs (who have proven they can play in the sec) less than that?

Also, the only thing that sucks worse then USC football is the formatting on that website. Que anurysm please.

I understand why you’re hatin’ on the coots. But lets review for a minute. You guys were unable to knock off a 6-6 gamecock club AT HOME in 2007 when a win would have put you into the SEC title game and possibly the MNC game. SC is indeed a nemesis. Richt always manages to lose a game he should win, thus no national title. Will this week be the week?

The funny thing about the 2nd week of the season is that you never know you are playing for the Natty.

The funny thing about ’07 is that Knowshon was a RS Frosh who had “lit up” Okie State the prior week for 70 yards on 20 carries.

The other funny thing is that superstar Stafford was coming off his dazzling debut season where he completed passes at a 52% clip on the way to 7 TD’s and 13 Int’s.

Should we have beat SC? Sure. But lets not pretend the ’07 Dawgs were the ’85 Bears on D and the ’94 49ers on O. The team got better in the 2nd half of the season before peaking against hated rivals and dominating in a BCS bowl. Kinda like Tech last year.

Well, Bama fans take credit for Saban’s BCS National Title while he was at LSU. I guess that means Gamecock fans can claim Spurrier’s Florida accomplishments
