Here’s a comment you don’t see every day:
Matt Simms considers himself a pro when it comes to taking a sack. The Tennessee quarterback has a little experience having been hit with 18 of them in five games.
“I know it sounds weird, but I really think I’ve kind of mastered how to take a sack and just protect my body and protect the football,” he said. “Really, most people would think you try to tense up and kind of ball up your muscle, but really you kind of relax and let your body go, really to be honest, and not try to brace yourself by putting your hand out or bracing the fall.”
Let’s hope he gets plenty of opportunities to polish his technique Saturday.
Get The Picture 
So it’s come to this: Tennessee’s quarterback is proud of the fact that he’s turned getting road-graded into an art form, and I’m still not convinced we’ll beat them Saturday.

I can see where he’s coming from. Check out the relatively few times when Joe Cox was sacked. Not a pretty picture. Looked like JFK in Dallas.

Uga VI told me Matthew Stafford did not know how to take a sack his freshman year.
Stafford had some ugly fumbles and interceptions that year, especially against Colorado and Tennessee.
Football, like life itself is not all glory, and swallowing your pride and learning how to cut your losses is a big part of it. So is knowing how to take advantage when your opponent got too soft.
Stafford got much better at both.
There are more than a few people in Athens learning this lesson right now.

I wouldn’t be as worried about Simms as I would Tauran (sp?) Poole. This is the Vols main offensive weapon when his healthy.

Simms forgot to mention he first saw this technique in action at a bar in Knoxville. Those who don’t instantly submit to their beating (or worse, fight back) are apt to get harsher treatment.
Perhaps CMR should dedicate this game to all off-duty cops. He could definitely use some friends in the police department.
