CFN’s Brian Harbach writes something that strikes me as a tad hyperbolic.
… UGA has lost four straight games, the most recent loss to a Colorado team that will at best finish 5-7 this year. There is a decent chance that Boulder loss could end up being worse than Ole Miss’ loss to Jacksonville State… [Emphasis added.]
But maybe it’s just me. So, I thought, this is a perfect opportunity to gauge your pessimism – it’s time for another reader poll!

It was not our finest moment, but Jacksonville State hadn’t beaten an FBS team in 9 years (and that was Arkansas State).
And as I recall, Georgia State took Jacksonville State to OT a couple weeks later, and that’s a first year program.

Colorado is 3-1 so far this year so I wouldn’t say it’s quite that bad. Tennessee fortunately is also a train wreck it’s just a matter of whose wreck is worse Saturday.

Colorado is a Big 12 school with Division-1 athletes and they’re coached by the guy who introduced Boise State to the national dialogue. Brian Harbach’s driving page views with this crap, and we’re all falling into his trap. He knows that Jax State is a 1-AA school and that losing to them would be far worse than losing to a Big 12 school. And he is also FOS when he says that CU is going to finish 7-5. Right now they’re 3-1, so to say that they’re not going to win more than two more games when they’ve got such powerhouses as Baylor, Kansas, K-State, and Tuberville left on their schedule is laughable. Oh yeah, and Iowa State. Just because Colorado was picked in the preseason to be pretty bad doesn’t mean that they’re a 5-7 team. The only reason he put 5-7 and not 3-9 is because they already have surpassed his preseason expectations. I’m glad that Brian Harbach likes to pile on, but he can go ahead and turn in his laptop on this one, and most importantly, kiss the hairiest part of my hindquarters.

I think the operative word there is “Kansas”. Not that I’m not willing to believe Baylor could be good, but I think the Kansas effort against SDSU is probably more indicative of what they’ve got there than the performance against Georgia Tech.

As bad as the loss to Colorado was it doesn’t compare with losing to someone like Jacksonville State. It is extremely aggravating to be out of things this early. I still believe this team has opportunity to make a run down the stretch if they don’t emotionally call it in. There’s a thin line between 4-1 and 1-4. Fumbles happen, but three KILLER fumbles and some plays called back at the wrong time have been devastating. The defense is a work in progress. I’m for giving this staff time to see what they can do. We have good coaches on that side of the ball.
I am more concerned about the offensive scheme and play calling. You build an offense around your talent. This team needs to be schemed around Aaron Murray’s talents (which are considerable) and getting the ball in the hands of guys who can make plays. Carlton Thomas up the gut from a power formation doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Carlton Thomas in the flats against a line backer does. I could make a list of things we don’t see on the offensive side of the ball. I love Coach Richt but our offense doesn’t attack or confuse a defense. It seems to be more about winning individual matchups. That might have been a formula for Florida State when they were playing a weak sister schedule for all those years, but it just won’t work in the SEC. The margin is too thin.

Yes, this season has been miserable, but let’s not give in to Bleacher Report-level hyperbole such as claiming that a loss at a BCS-conference team halfway across the country, mediocre though they may be, is somehow more embarrassing than a home loss to an OVC team.

Have you not been reading the posts here, and on other UGA boards? The rest of the stupids just haven’t gotten up yet, or they are waiting for someone to take them to the poll to vote. I think the irrational quota amongst UGA fans is closer to 30%.

Ole Miss lost to J-State AT HOME! We had to travel by covered wagon through Indian territory to barely lose by 2 points to a BCS school. No comparison.

Call me crazy ( many have before) but the Colorado team I saw didn’t look bad to me. Maybe not Nebraska but certainly not chopped liver. I can certainly see them as a bowl team this year.

Be all that as it is, but, when the season is over & bowl bids are issued, the loss to Col. may be a big difference maker. Also the Dawgs really needed that 1 in an effort to continue their streak of 8 wins a year season. The ole Miss losss will not effect them as much as our loss to Col. will effect us.
If anybody wants to slap me, they better bring their lunch because It will be an all day job.
Now I believe that we have turned the season around but the loss to Col. will be the Albatross around our neck all season long.

A final thought. Col. plays two ranked teams & loses 52 to 7 & 19 to 0. They score 31 against Hawaii & 29 against the Dawgs.. My vote stands.

Hey guys, the reason for that comment was Jacksonville State will likely be ranked higher in the Sagarin ratings over Colorado at the end of the year.
