Every time I read an Aaron Murray story, I grow more impressed. Marc Weiszer’s got a good one up today about how Murray’s been able to grow into the position and how the playbook has opened up as a result.
And you’ve got to like this comparison from his head coach:
… Like Greene, who also started as a redshirt freshman in 2001, Richt chalks up Murray’s early success to “coachability,”
“That’s one thing I realized about Greene in the very beginning when we started meeting with him and I’d watch him go about his business,” Richt said. “That guy was focused, that guy was taking notes. That guy would go from the meeting room to the practice field and you could see his head nod and he’d do exactly what he would supposed to do in his progressions. He was creating habits that were going to allow him to make good decisions. That’s what Murray does, and Mike and I both could see that in him.”
David Greene’s approach to the game packaged in a more athletic body? Not a bad place to start…

It’s unfortunate they didn’t say these things about the NFL star, so much. Though he did mostly get it by the time he left, at least.

Greene and Murray were both a year further along before they started. And neither one faced the temptation of being able to make throws into coverage (e.g. Favre) that nobody else could make.

With a rebuilt line, let’s build a running game to complement Murray, so he does not have to force things that are not there.

Ok, I admit it, I have been one of those “toss sweep to Herschel” kind of Bulldog Joes.
I was deeply disappointed by a quarterback’s performance in a state championship game right after the war.
Have not really trusted them (except Buck) since.
But when the new kid tapped the pylon with the football Saturday, I thought….”Hey, this could be fun.”
He sure looks like he is having a good time being the boss dawg of offense.
If he will just learn to hook slide and stop leading with his head when he runs, I may be able to get over my quarterback trust issues.

It would still be nice if we had a tailback who runs the football with his hair on fire, still has the football when the whistle blows and has a valid driver’s license.

I think I read on another blog that he is not that high on Dawgs due to their record and arrests. Those 12:21 starts probably don’t help him make a visit either.

They get great plays confused with great calls. ‘The Catch’ wasn’t even a call. Come on! Munson’s was both.

Well, obviously I agree with all the above comments, but considering it was (1) SI and (2) largely about ALL professional sports, I thought it was good to be recognized at all.
If you read through his rationalization, he did say that Munson was his all-time favorite college announcer.

He’s a great writer, SI connections notwithstanding, and wrote columns for the Augusta daily rag way back, if you can believe it.
His Herschel tribute, written in KC, is a must read for all Dawgs.

It is pretty striking when you think about it, how often have you seen a team start a season as poorly as we have, and NOBODY is complaining about the quarterback? Obviously I’m not saying anyone should be complaining, it’s just a +1 for Murray that he’s been able to shine as a freshman despite the rest of the team falling short.

Aaron is going to get the name the Pylon Kid if he keeps it up that was number 2. The announcer said he should have dove for the endzone. The kid is a player, if we can only get some more like him.
